So while I'm here, I'll tell you about my crush.
It was second grade, and I hadn't made any friends. Both of my friends from the year before had moved. So I was alone. Then this boy (we'll call him Jones) came up to me and we just became really good friends. We acted like siblings but everyone knew we weren't because we were different skin colors and his mom worked at the school, so they just knew. By the end of second grade, I was really looking forward to seeing him again the next year.
But the next year, he didn't show up.
I didn't make friends as good as him until about 4th grade when I met this girl. (we'll call her Maddy) She introduced me to another one of her friends (we'll call HER Leah) The thing was I never met Leah in person, just over google docs.
And then 5th grade rolled around. I became really interested in singing, so my grandmother set me up for this church choir for kids. Boy I was excited! The church leader set me next to this boy, and when she started teaching the songs, he looked at me and said, "You look familiar..." Then he gasped and went "KEYBOARD!" (Just pretend that's my name, okay?) I was so dumbfounded. He said, "KEYBOARD! It's me Jones! Do you recognize me?"
The next few weeks of church choir camp was fun. We just hung out and sung and all types of stuff. I found myself falling for him (by this time I was almost in 6th grade) and when it was over, he hugged me and said "I'll miss you," and I started BAWLING. He hugged me and said "and I love you. I'm upset this camp is over." And I said, "I love you too," because it was true.
And I didn't see him again until around the middle of 7th grade.
It was one of my friend's b-day parties at an ice skating arena. It was my first time ice skating, and when I put on the ice skates and tried to stand up, I leaned on the wall for support and said "How do you even WALK in these things?"
Some guy walked by and said, "You don't."
I had two hours at that ice arena, and I was going to make the most of it. So despite my fears of falling and failing, I went on the ice. Those first few minutes were scary, and I fell like four times in the whole that I was there. But on one of the four times I fell, some dude stuck out his hand and helped me up.
A voice said “Keyboard, it’s me, Jones.”
I looked up and didn’t recognize him at all. He had this poofy afro-like hairdo that I was SO not used to, but it was okay I guess.
We talked and talked, (not at all mentioning what happened in 5th grade) and then my mom had to come and pick me up. I was devastated.
And then just a few weeks ago, I saw him again. It was at my church and he brought his friend from school. I asked what school Jones went to now, and Jones replied with his answer. Then I said, “Oh I have a friend that goes there! Maybe you know her? Her name’s Leah!”
He looked at his friend and said, “Oh yeah I um… I definitely um *ahem*... yeah I know her.”
Then his friend said, “They’re actually dating.”
Well I found out like 3 weeks ago that they broke up. I asked him out yesterday and he said, "Yeah so umm hold up today there has been a lot of emotional stuff going on I need some time to think about some stuff including my feelings for you I did not know you felt that way so let me think for a little I am flattered you feel that way so let think about my feelings for you. Basically I am saying I will tell you my answer later."
