Why are people phased by looks?

So today, I was in a gas station, grabbing a cold drink because I was walking to set an appointment for my hair at a nearby hair salon and out of no where, these three young men approached me and started saying I was beautiful. One of them was very.. strong-willed to talk to me. I guess what caught his attention was my hair.. since he said he loved my hair?
All of them were dark skinned, and they had tattoos.. so they intimidated me. Especially when they sorta circled around me. And like, I thought they were setting up a distraction to get in my bag or something.
The one that was stubborn asked how old I was, where I was from, and if I had a boyfriend. Then he asked for my instagram, and I stupidly gave it to him without thinking straight. Their compliments got me overwhelmed and panicky.
They even offered to pay for my stuff..
Now I got a stranger messaging me on Instagram, saying I'm such an "artwork" and I'm 100% sure he's just going for the looks.
I don't know what to do. -
Is there a way to ignore or block them? If it makes you feel weird/strange/uncomfortable, then I say do that if possible. Perhaps, anyway.

Yeah I can block him but I kinda don't want to come out as rude. :/

I can understand that...miss(I think)
Does it bother you greatly? Are they doing alot in the way? If they keep up and it bothers you, then that may be a way to go. Try to ask them to stop? I dont know much to do here. -

Wow so one time I had a random guy on Instagram messaging me and complimenting me and always asking for pictures and it was so uncomfortable. He was always trying to get my attention. And it was stressing me out. Eventually I just ended up telling him he just needed to move on with his own life, and I wanted to go on with mine and just focus more on the people around me. He took it pretty well and said bye. But I did end up having to block him.
It felt rude... But I needed that to end.
