Depends. If you've never really talked or seen this person then it isn't good. I did a couple of years ago. Not good whatsoever. If you met this person and skyped them and are 100% positive they're trustworthy then it's okay just be careful!

I have never dated online but I know that a danger is that you could end up dating someone like 50 while your only like 15

Nothing is wrong with it, but in my opinion, you should meet the person you are dating online with in a public place to make sure who you are dating isn't somebody who is looking to do you any harm.
