A quick piece to show my basic process. Took an hour -
to be simultaneously alive and dead
a floating corpse with blushing cheeks
when I think about my past, I wonder how I made it out alive but truthfully I was a walking corpse
Rem, though bearing little to no physical resemblance to me, is a character I created as a representation of my traumatic past
it is genderless, but often takes the form of a young girl, contradictive to my own gender identity as a man, to represent how vulnerable and innocent I was then
Rem's gender expression is a bit more complex than that but even still
I often depict Rem with bruised arms and legs, a filthy and forlorn appearance
in reality my own suffering was often more covert and sinister, but I did wear those marks
yet back then I displayed so much tenacity, so much energy
it was drained then
and now there's nothing left
a desert flower, sure, but my oasis has gone dry
I don't know who that is
it feels like I'm another person entirely, two separate identities
even more, separate people
but really it's all me
it's all me -
