What is Vocaloid exactly?
Please help me.
I feel like an anime failure right now. xD -
Vocaloid is a singing voice software. In other words, it's a program where they take special vowels recorded from a person, and turn all of those vowels in a voice for a character. For example, they took the Japanese artist Camui Gackt and made him record vowels, and using those vowels they created the Vocaloid Kamui Gakupo.
So, now with the Vocaloid created, they can use it so that it sings songs. That is done by opening the program, then inserting lyrics (by using the vowels that were provided with the voice bank.)
Some of the other more famous Vocaloids include: Hatsune Miku, Shion Kaito, Kagamine Rin and Len, and Megurine Luka.

Alice got it on the spot, Vocaloids is a vocal synthesizer with anime mascots. There is no actual 'anime' for it but it does have video games, a fanmade manga (drawn by the artist that designed Miku aka KEI), and their music videos can portray entire stories.
Vocaloids is one of my only sources of music, I swear. It's innovative, creative and everything is community based--almost nothing is set, no character has a set personality so you can do whatever you want and make whatever you want.
It basically encourages creativity. That's why I love it so much. :3 -

A lot of people are indeed inspired by vocaloids, the community churns out fanstuff like butter!
Seriously, fanart, music, music videos, fanmade mangas, fanfict, holy crap so much of it.. -
Most vocaloids are female, but yeah I know what you mean. xD
