My friends have been going crazy about this recently. Is it any good?

if you like parodic interpretations of countries as humans with bits and pieces of history thrown in there, then yes.
Personally I find it amusing, but the fanbase is the most terrifying thing i've ever encountered.
The non-insane fans are dandy though. -
Thanks. :D
I'll think I'll take a stab at it. -
Yes, pretty much what Ting said.
The anime is a bit funny with the occasional time it'll stab your heart. It's more on stereotypes of people from the country than actual history.
The majority of the countries included are from Europe (Spain, Italy, Finland, etc.) and then from Asia (China, Japan, Russia, etc.). North American countries included in the anime are Canada and the U.S. The only Latin country is Cuba, while the only African country is Seychelles. Australia also gets a mention in Season 5, but that's about it.
Seasons 1 and 2 are mainly focused on WW2 Allies and Axis. Seasons 3 and 4 are general, focusing on various countries. Season 5 has not been released in English dubs, but it is like 3 and 4. 5 also includes a different style to the anime which is more.. pleasant, I'd say.
The episodes are short, averaging around five minutes each.
As for the fandom, it's horrifying and I have to admit it makes me embarrassed to even like the anime. But as long as you stay around the calm part of the fandom (i.e: the majority of people you'll find on GTQ/the cool people who don't get into "ship wars" and ridiculous stuff like that) you'll find they're very welcoming and friendly people.
So yeha. c: -
Ah, no. Sorry. Seychelles isn't the only African country. Egypt is another.
-
I agree, the fanbase scares me. ._. But it's not all bad. Just stay around the mentally healthy fans. :3
Ting and Alice pretty much summed it up. I hope that Himaruya adds more characters soon. I'd love a Czech or Slovak character. x3 -
My friend sometimes goes off the handle about "shipping". Italy and Germany seems to be the big one.
....What is shipping? -
It's when people pair up characters in a romantic relationship, a pairing, and fan over it. Some people get so caught up in it they can become assholes. But I myself like some pairings, just have to remember that these are indeed fictional characters, and even if they were real you don't want to be some creepy, forceful fangirl. .3.
