It's not trash
People think it's trash because:
-the fan base is mostly toxic little kids. The game itself is fine but a lot of the players are intolerable
-it's popular to hate on it. Calling fortnite "bad" is cool so people like to do it -

What makes fortnite trash?

I didn't start playing Fortnite untile last year. I played it quite a lot all year and was really frustrated because there were quite a few bugs that never got fixed but for the most part it was really fun and challenging.
I stopped playing when the released the new chapter because they made the game extremely unbalanced and promoted spray and pret culture which I hated. They wanted to get more new players so they made it really easily to unskillfully get kills and didn't reward their loyal fanbase.
Last season was really fun because it rewarded a practiced aim and dexterity. You had to really practice patterns and speed to get good and no two games felt the same.
As of right now I won't play it because I don't like the direction the game is going in and they haven't fixed some pretty bad bullet registration issues that have lost me games. In that way I'd say the game absolutely sucks
I won't jump on the "fornite bad" bandwagon though because it's not bad..it provides unique mechanics and engaging gameplay and even they younger kids I end up in lobbies with are super sweet most of the time
Fortnite Bad culture is really just an echo chamber from people who have most likely never played the game. I certainly was hesitant to start playing it for that very reason. I had never played it and already had an predetermined idea of what it would be like.
As an individual you're allowed to not like it. Maybe it's too slow for your pace or you don't like the style of game, but if you say fornite bad just to go hop on Apex then you're a huge hypocrite lol. -
The matchmaking is also really frustrating because although it's skill based they don't show you what skill bracket you're in. I'm pretty sure I was stuck in the lowest tier of my bracket for a really long time and it made it difficult for me to get better because all the people in my lobbies were way better than me.
