I just downloaded Minecraft. I was so excited. Then, I found out I couldn't break blocks. I'm in the right gamemode and I'm pressing and holding but, it won't work!

You might have set something to not allow blocks to be destroyed. Can you still place down?
I would suggest looking at moderator privileges. Also, if you're on PC and you've joined someone elses server, check with the moderator. They might have settings on that block certain areas from being destroyed.
