Definitely. You should be able to like whatever you want. I think anime has been given a bad stereotype just because of a few bad series or fans. It's their loss for not digging deeper to find something good.
And even if they just don't like anime, they shouldn't get angry with their friends who do. -

I actually had that idea once, but I never went through with it. xD If you want to start a club, try talking to the school about it. Though I think you might need to get some friends who are anime lovers first or at least convert some, because the school might want to know there will be an actual following for the club.
And even if that doesn't happen, you can still become apart of a community online. That's what I do, since I don't really know any anime fans in my area. deviantArt and fanfiction are good places. Also have you ever heard of TinierMe? -

Basically you can customize an anime 'selfy' and chat with other people on there, quite often other anime lovers. -
