A straight leading punch travels less distance to the target, and is therefore faster. Straight lead punching also utilizes whip like motion to more efficiently transfer kinetic energy to the target; however, the punch will have less time and distance to build energy then the swing.
Straight lead punching also leaves you less vulnerable to attack for a shorter amount of time.
Swinging by contrast, puts enormous weight behind the small surface area of the swinger's fist and; although the swing's slower, it has more distance, and time to multiply the energy through the swinger's rotating body. swings cover more area, which makes fast moving, small targets easier to hit. unfortunately, due to the relatively slow speed, and arc of the swing, your left very vulnerable to attacks from striking techniques, and disarming techniques.
Straight leading stances, are tight, and designed for efficient, deceptive, movement. Generally, stepping is avoided; your feet rarely move beyond pivoting to generate the whipping motion needed for powerful striking. from the ground, thighs, hips, ribs, shoulders, and head, all turn in fluid motion, generating kinetic power, traveling along the fist, finally, pushed into the targets body. At the moment the energy contacts the target, and pushes past into the body, the straight leader's own will whip back suddenly, all of your mass reversing, and leaving the energy behind. as the kinetic power disperses, it disrupts and damages the targets body.
Swinging stances are wider then their counter parts, with more crouched posture. The wide stance and crouched posture allows for the quick stepping, and shifting of weight required to make the whole body guide the fist through the air. with the swinger's entire body weight, plus momentum, sailing through the air building charge from every muscle in the body, as it rotates widely; the swing is exponentially more powerful then the straight lead. Upon contact with the target, the kinetic power begins to discharge into the targets body, causing damage as long as the fist travels in contact with the targets body. however, a great deal of the power is discharged into the air, after contact's already been broken.
