“Uh, kinda? We don’t know for sure yet, but,” Nick paused, taking a deep breath. “Your dad had a heart attack. He’s in the hospital right now, and he’s stable, but unconscious.”

Karl froze, his heart stopping. “He- He what?” He asked shakily, sitting up in his bed.

“He had a heart attack,” Nick said softly, starting to walk down the hall for something else. “But he’s stable, Karl, he’s okay. I can’t leave work but I can call an uber or something for you to come to hospital.”

Karl didn’t speak for a few moments, his hands shaking as his breathing quickened. “Yeah- Yeah, o-okay,” he spoke quietly, shakily moving to stand up.

“Breathe, Karl, take a second,” Nick said softly, peering into a room. “Your moms also here- do you wanna talk to her?”

“No.” Karl spoke curtly, grabbing his crutches and standing up. “I- I’m on my way, I’ll- Get a ride from A-Alex or something-“

“Hey, Karl, don’t hurt yourself, okay?” He said softly, frowning a little. “If you can get a ride or something, great, but be careful.”

“I’ll be fine,” Karl spoke shakily before hanging up, tears filling his eyes. This cannot be f---ing happening- He left his room and called Alex, his breathing becoming erratic as he made his way to the front door and grabbing his shoes. Pick up, pick up, f---ing pick up!

Nick sighed, going back to whatever he had to do.

Alex soon pulled up and Karl got into the car, buckling up shakily. The ravenette opened his mouth to speak but Karl cut him off, exhaling shakily. “Just f---ing drive, please-“ He spoke, trying not to burst into tears again. Alex nodded and pulled out of the driveway, heading to the hospital. They soon arrived and Karl got out, shakily making his way inside.

“Karl! Over here, c’mon,” Nick called from a door on the other side of the waiting room, waving him over.

Karl looked over and rushed over to Nick, his hands shaking.

“Karl, your dad is okay, his vitals are stronger and his heart is stabilizing,” Nick said as he started to lead the brunette out of the waiting room.

Karl exhaled shakily and nodded as he followed Nick, trying to stay calm.

Nick led him to his dads room, walking in and holding the door open for the brunette.
