Zeke looked at him, and handed him the paper that was in his hands. "I just need to get to the college campus, and I'll be fine." He stood there for a moment, and clasped his hands together. For some reason, this felt nerve-wracking to him. He had no idea what he was supposed to do to 'redeem' himself. What even qualified as him redeeming himself?
-
Cifarelli raised an eyebrow, taking the paper and looking it over. ‘Hm, alright. Yeah, I can help you, that place is only a few blocks away,’ he said, handing him back the map. He watched the other man for a second, seeming to ponder something. ‘What’s your name?’
-
My name is Zep-...Zeke." He caught himself before he could finish. "I just moved here, and I can't seem to find my way around." He let out an awkward chuckle. "Just want to make sure I know where to go, and then I'll be on my way. I promise." Zeke felt like he was already making the conversation awkward. He already approached this stranger out if the blue. He was honestly suprised this stranger was willing to help him. "What's your name?" He asked, trying to ease the conversation and make it more comfortable.
-
‘Cifarelli,’ he responded, taking a sip out of his latte and chucking it in a nearby bin. It missed. He shrugged and looked back at Zeke. ‘Nice to meet you, Zeke. Where are you from?’ He turned around and began walking down the sidewalk to lead the other man to his destination.
-
Zeke thought for a moment, a random place coming to his mind that he had heard in conversation once or twice. "I'm from Massachusetts!" He said, a bit to eagerly. He looked at Cifarelli, and started to walk behind him. "So, where are you from?" He asked, ernestly.
-
Cifarelli glanced behind him at Zeke skeptically but didn't say something about his tone. He paused for a moment, panicking slightly before answering. 'I'm from, er, Ohio,' he said quickly. He'd heard it once in a conversation between teenagers.
-
Zeke nodded. "I've heard that Ohio is a pretty cool place." He started to match Cifarelli's pace. Zeke had no idea if that was true, but it seemed to fit the conversation. "So, what do they call you other than Cifarelli? There has to be a nickname or something they call you." Zeke shoved his hands into his pockets. He looked at the schedule that was still in Cifarelli's hands. Internally he was wondering if Cifarelli also attended the college. It wouldn't hurt to have a friend anyway.
-
'No, no nickname,' Cifarelli said, looking down again at the schedule. He scanned it before focusing on the path in front of him. 'You can come up with one if you like.' Cifarelli thought about what human college might be like. He never went to school in hell, and was curious, but he figured it couldn't be pleasant.
-
"I'll try to come up with one." Zeke said, admiring the sights around him as he walked. There was so much here that he had never noticed before. He never pictured Earth would be like this. It seemed wondrous and scary at the same time. "So, not to sound trouble-some but how far are we?" Zeke said, the words seemingly rushing out of his mouth. "Not that you aren't pleasant company, of course!" Zeke's stomach seemed to flip over in knots. He hoped he wasn't making a fool of himself. "It's just that....I need to get to my locker, and apparently I have a dorm. It's a lot, and it's my first year of college; and-...." Zeke wanted to continue, but he already felt like he was droning. Cifarelli seemed like a person that didn't mind to help, but it also seemed like he had his own places to be.
-
Cifarelli glanced at Zeke again. He smirked and turned his head back in front of him. ‘Only a few minutes. It’s right around the corner, but we might need to check in.’ He stuck his hands in his pockets and looked around as they turned a corner down the street.
-
Zeke nodded, and followed Cifarelli. In the distance he could see the college building. He was excited, and could feel the adrenaline flood his veins. He didn't think about checking in. "If you are okay with it, just walking me to check-in. I think I should have it from there though!" Zeke let out an awkward chuckle. "Thank you for helping me out."
-
‘You’re all good. Happy to help,’ Cifarelli said with a smile, handing him back the map. He walked Zeke into the entrance.
-
Zeke held onto the schedule tightly and walked into the entrance as well. He could see other students milling about, the same papers in their hands. Maybe he would make it after all. Everyone had the same look on their faces as he did. Like this was a whole new world. He saw a sign over-head that said 'Check-In here'. Zeke looked at Cifarelli. "Thanks again!" He said with a slight wave, and he rushed to the check in counter. There was still something about them that Zeke couldn't place. It was like a magnet. Cifarelli had an odd push/pull effect on him.
-
Cifarelli watched the other man walk away, leaning against the wall. He smirked then shook his head, walking to the exit.
-
Zeke talked to the individual that was sitting at the check in center, and they gave him a campus map, but directions on how to get to his locker. Apparently, he would have a person staying in the dorm with him. There would be two beds, and space enough for both of their things. Zeke was excited, and after getting instructions on where to go, he headed to his locker first.
When he got to his locker, he opened it with ease. Inside was everything he would need for his classes. His course books, a back-pack, binders, folder, pencils and there was a letter that rested on top of everything. Zeke took the letter, and shoved it in his pocket. He closed the locker, and made up his mind that he would read it later. He quickly made his way to his dorm, wondering who his room-mate would be.
