Ernest blushed. "I assume he thought I'd at least go to my classes since I'm such a geek." He shrugged.

‘So you skipped school to get a job? I thought that’s what all human parents wanted.’

"Are witch parents different or something?" Ernie chuckled. "And he wanted me to do something important and noble or something. Can't do that without a proper education it seems."

Mahina chuckled lightly, but not genuinely. ‘I wouldn’t say so. But my parents didn’t expect me to live on into my teenage years,’ she said, a little sadly. ‘What was the job you got?’

"They didn't?" Ernest asked softly, squeezing her hand. "And I worked as a bookkeeper ironically enough."

Mahina chuckled. ‘Makes sense,’ she said ‘I should’ve guessed.’ She didn’t address the part about her parents.

Ernie chuckled, giving a small concerned look once he realized she didn't talk about the parent part.

Mahina noticed the look on his face. ‘What?’ she asked. -
"Your parents didn't think you'd live this long?" Ernie said, paraphrasing what he heard. "Did I hear that right?"

Mahina clenched her teeth. ‘’Yeah,’ she mumbled, looking away. ‘Yeah, you heard it right.’

Ernie squeezed her hand comfortingly. "I'm sorry."

‘You did nothing wrong,’ Mahina mumbled; but she still leaned her head on his shoulder. -

Ernest blushed slightly. "I don't care, I'm still sorry." -
(Lol thank god)
Mahina snuggled up close to him. She didn’t care about it being awkward right now. ‘Shut up, frog boy. There’s nothing you could have done to change it, so there’s no point being sorry.’ -
Ernie gave a small smile. "I still am, so you'll have to deal with it."
