Eli looked at the ground. "I mean, it used to...." They said quietly.

'Yeah, but now it doesn't,' Callum said with a sigh.

"Do you think if we beat the shadow thing it'd fix itself?"

'Maybe.'

"Then lets try and beat that thing!" Eli exclaimed like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

'Weren't we arguing about that just before?' Callum said. Students were starting to leave the class.

"I know, but we could beat it!" Eli protested. "I mean, we could defeat it!"

'How?'

"We could.... Beat it up! Or if you just listen to me and let me be used as bait we could possibly find your parents, and THEN we could have them help out!"

'No, if anything I should be the bait. Or both of us if we keep going on like this.'

"What's the point of having both of us be bait?" Eli asked, smiling. "It makes no sense."

'Then neither of us have to live with the grief of the other dying.'

"But then if the worst happened nobody would be able to help the cats!"
