Terry looked back at the newspaper, though looking like he wasn’t really reading it, just staring boredly.

Natsuki raised an eyebrow at him, then looked away.

Terry looked back at Nat. “At least nod or shake your head. Were you talking to a friend?”

Natsuki nodded once.

Terry smiled slightly. “Good. Why were they texting?” He realized what he said too late. “Sorry, that wasn’t a yes or no question. Were they wondering where you were?”

Natsuki shook her head.

Terry raised an eyebrow. “Were they from the foster center? Are they that one boy there, the older one?”

She shook her head again, thinking back to Leo.

“How did they know you got adopted? Did you tell them?”

Nat nodded again.

“I see… do you have other friends you talk to?”

She shook her head, still not looking at him.

“Ah… well I’m sorry.” Terry said awkwardly. “This friend, how close of a friend are they?”

Nat didn't answer, mainly because it wasn't a yes-no question and she couldn't think of a way to reply.

Terry caught himself again. “Right, it’s not a yes or no question. Well…. On a scale of one to ten how close of a friend are they?” He figure she could use her fingers to show.
