Maybe someone disappears out the corner of your eye. Maybe you forget why you’re talking to someone. Maybe someone’s nose bleeds.
Y’know, when I read comic books and watched superhero movies as a kid, I imagined the real deal would be exhilarating. Fighting crime or maybe starting a little mischief yourself. Leagues of people looking up to you — literally, as you flew in the sky. I definitely didn’t imagine f---ing poverty being an issue for the superpowered, who needs a job at retail when you can professionally beat up terrorists?
But comic books are fantasy, half the time political ideas with a big strong man as a vehicle for patriotic retribution. To be fair, whats more realistic; America being fine with an alien superman coursing through the atmosphere, taking matters in his own hands and potentially threatening national agency? Or America hunting the man down with industrial super-cages and deriving his superpowered features for themselves to use as a weapon?
People are scared of not just the unknown, but the powerful. A woman walks alone in the street with a gun in her purse because she fears what men more powerful than her might pursue. A nation polishes its nuclear warheads because it fears what war another country might threaten it with. Humans are fearful for good reason.
Which is why the Powered population is mostly a myth to the general public. The people with eyes in the sky know something’s up, something not normal, but they keep it down-low because they don’t want their people freaking out and destroying society, and because they don’t want us freaking out and destroying society either. In a sense, there’s been a cold war. Mystery figures high on the chain of command doing everything in their power to track down and wage a shadow war against Powereds
There aren’t a lot of us, but there are many things we do. We use our abilities to keep the people safe that we need to keep safe. And some of us use them covertly for their own gain. We’re on edge. We know we can’t tell anybody but we know there’s something after us. Most of us don’t even know there are others like them. I know there’s a conspiracy against us, and I hope to find more like myself out there. To feel like I’m not alone in this. Maybe to fight back. I hope to find you all.

Appearance: At 5’8 and ~145lbs, Alex is a man of relatively small stature but explosive power. Physically built but lean, he has an athletic physique. He keeps his hair short, curly black with a bold taper on the sides, a curl or two usually hanging around his eyes. He has a light-brown complexion not unlike the top of a creme brûlée or caramel, with a line scar across his left cheekbone. His eyes are wide and deep brown with a neutral tilt, he can look shifty without meaning to.
Clothes: Alex tends to walk around with a dark closet. Dark, strappy techwear pants with a graphic tee — usually anime or some videogame reference (he loves his Dishonored merch) — and a plain, slightly oversized black hoodie is his usual getup. He has a wide collection of shoes but usually steps out in his Jordan 1s or Vans.
Background information: Alex has always been a more introverted kind of person, preferring to keep his secrets and revelations to himself. He was an only child, but living in a poor part of town he found himself looking after some of the younger kids in his clique, who he came to see as younger siblings. He grew up with a strong sense of camaraderie and companionship, very close to the people he looks out for but a passing glance with most everybody else.
When he sneezed once and accidentally set his kitchen curtains on fire, he knew he wasn’t tripping when he had to sweep up the ashes of what was left of it. Already being a bit of a recluse, this revelation turned him into a hermit, nearly going off the grid and keeping contact even with close friends and family to a minimum. It took him a while to call upon his power again, but once he confirmed that there were now some kind of supernatural phenomena in the world, he decided to make it his objective to figure out what was going on.
