Trixie raced after Dream and knocked him to the ground on the side of the river. She got in his face and growled, but it clearly wasn't aggression toward him. The message was clear. 'Go back and save him, you coward!'
Nick's breathing quickened and he saw the world starting to fade. -
Dream pushed the dog away. "He doesn't want my help, Trixie. You go back to him. I can't help him! I'm the one who hurt him!" He kept pushing the dog away until finally he got annoyed. "Fine!! I'll f**king go back with you. Okay? I'll go back, even though he's just going to push me away."

Trixie's eyes portrayed panic. It was clear she was connected to Nick from the start, and she felt that something was wrong. She growled and raced back through the river.
Nick collapsed completely, unable to stay on his hands and knees anymore. He lay in a small pool of his own blood, barely breathing. -
Dream followed the dog and swam back across. He ran after her, heading back to the house. "Are you sure you want me around him, Trixie? I hurt him! You can't want me around!"

She spun and glared at him. It would have been comical if this wasn't such a dire situation. 'You hurt him, in more ways than one. NOW, you're going to fix it-'

Dream flinched, and nodded. "Okay." He ran the rest of the way and up the stairs. He glanced at the dog and hesitantly approached Nick. "Nick? Nick? Are you ... Can you ... I'm sorry." He choked out, tears streaming down his face.

Nick's eyes opened at the sound of Dream's voice. "Clay?" He whispered in both relief and fear.

Dram fell to his knees. "I'm sorry. I don't ... I don't know what I - I was doing. C- c-can I see?" He reached for the younger boy carefully, throwing the dagger to the side.

Nick flinched away and his eyes widened with fear. His entire body shook as he tried to force himself toward Dream.

Dream started crying harder. "I'm sorry. I know I broke your trust and you probably hate me. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you." He attempted to clean the blood of Nick's side, biting his lip nervously.

"N-No. I love you, I'm so sorry." Nick whispered. "Dreamie I'm sorry-" Nick hadn't referred to Clay with that nickname in years. "I love you. Y-You probably hate me so much now I'm such a burden I'm so sorry you should just let me die" Nick's voice broke and was so strained that you could barely hear it.

Dream sobbed. "I can't! I can't let you die. I love you too. Sappy, I still love you. I can't. I just can't let you die. I'm sorry." He stood going to grab some bandages.

Nick nodded slowly. "B-But why?" He asked, his voice still just as strained. "I don't understand- I- how do you not hate me!? I'm just causing you p-pain." Nick winced and pressed a hand to his side as his tears started falling faster.
