Belladonna wrapped her jacket tighter around herself to keep away the cold that lingered on her exposed skin. She jumped slightly when her string suddenly began to change direction, turning more to her left. Her breath caught in her throat and she found herself paralyzed in the middle of the street.
"They're close," she breathed. She shook her head to clear it, dark waves slipping out of her ponytail. "Focus, Belladonna."
She chased after the string, her sneakers hitting the pavement at a rhythmic pace. A dim lamplight flickered as insects swarmed around it. -
Myriad grunted as he hauled himself up onto the rooftops, sniffing at the air to see if he could scent his prey, before he stopped. He slowly turned his head, staring at the string attached to his hand in curiosity. It was moving. That was new.
After a few seconds he shook it off, growling at himself. Don't get distracted. That's how you get Punished." He sniffed again and then started heading across the rooftops to kill his target, doing his best to shove down his thoughts -
Belladonna ran until her breath began to come short and her legs felt like jelly. She stopped for a moment to catch her breath, leaning against the side of a dusty building. The cold from the unyielding concrete wall leeched warmth from her fingers. All was still and quiet.
She was close. She could feel it. Gathering her breath once more, she followed the string again.
Suddenly, a sound reached her ears. It sounded like quick footsteps, quite and soft, coming from somewhere a little ways away. She ran towards it, her heart racing. -
Myriad continued making his way across the rooftops, unaware of the woman following him. He eventually stopped at a house, having located his target, before slipping inside.
He emerged from the building a few minutes later, blood dripping from his face as he dropped down into an ally to clean off -
Belladonna knew that she could save time if she cut through a nearby alleyway, sliding a little as she turned and ran in. Every breath she took seemed amplified by the close space, the darkness pressing on her eyeballs. Horror struck her when she realized something.
She wasn't the only one in this alleyway breathing. -
Myriad had started cleaning the blood off himself when someone entered the ally. He stopped, slowly lifting his head to look at the human with a low growl, his eyes glowing in the darkness. He then paused, his eyes narrowing in confusion. Why didn't this human seem like prey? All humans pinged to his senses as prey, even his mother. So why didn't this one?

ACK SORRY))
Belladonna was frozen with fear when the glowing eyes met hers. She stumbled back, her foot catching on some rock-hard lump of foul smelling garbage. She caught herself on the brick wall, letting out a pained hiss as it cut into her hand. Blood trickled down her palm as she stared, petrified, at whatever beast was in front of her.
Was it some sort of animal? Maybe a wild dog that roamed the streets? Her other hand tightened around the hilt of the knife. The red string caught her eye. It was in the direction of the beast. Surely, this creature was blocking her way to her soulmate. Her soulmate.
She found herself able to breath again, air filling her lungs in shallow pants. As her eyes began to adjust to the darkness, she could tell that whatever the being was, it was vaguely humanoid. This was no dog. -
Myriad half spread his wings when she hissed, immediately hissing back at her as his tail lashed. He then paused and made a confused whine, smelling her blood and feeling...scared? No, that wasn't right. He knew what fear was, this feeling was different.
The half demon started looking conflicted, slowly taking a step back as his wings folded against his back -
Belladonna took a step back, pulling her bloodied and trembling hand closer to her chest. She saw through the darkness a person with...wings? It couldn't be. Humans didn't have wings.
The red string tied on her ring finger like an engagement ring steeled her nerves and brought her a little bit of calm. This man, if he was even a man, was between her and her soulmate. She would survive. She had to.
"Look," she said in a trembling voice, her dark, messy curls falling out of their ponytail in a disordered tangle. "I don't know who you are. I just want to find my soulmate." A small, choked sob escaped her. She was scared, even terrified, but she couldn't let this stranger know. -
Myriad narrowed his eyes at her when she spoke, trying to figure out what she was saying. He faintly remembered his orders. 'No witnesses'. But something was telling him not to kill this human. Not to hurt them. He whined again, before twisting and launching himself up to the rooftops
-
Belladonna jumped back in alarm when the stranger somehow launched himself up onto the rooftops. She looked down at the string and saw it leading up, following him. She was speechless, her throat seeming to go dry.
"H-Hey, wait!" she called out, stumbling toward the wall. "You're my..." -

Myroad stopped when he head "wait", causing him to whine in confusion as he walked to the edge, looking down at her. -

Yeth))
The word seemed to die in her throat, her tentative gaze meeting his. She balled her hands into fists under her coat sleeves, forcing herself to speak. "...soulmate."
