Dahlia stirred from a hazy dreamland, slowly sitting up and rubbing at her eyes. She must have fallen asleep, but for how long? If anything, it had made her even more exhausted. The sun peeking through the metal bars told her that she hadn't slept for that long, and only now did she realize that the voices faintly ringing outside of the window sounded vaguely foreign.
Dahlia returned her attention to the door, looking at it with a waspish glare as if she could reduce it to atoms with a simple stare. If looks could kill, Nickola would be six feet under by now. She pulled the covers up further, shielding her from the eyes of whoever might come through the door. "Yes?" she called out hesitantly. -
"I've brought you some food. I was told you haven't eaten in quite a while, so I made you a good amount in case you were hungry," the woman said.

*kicks down door with two functional brain cells* M'lady))
Dahlia recoiled from the woman as if she were holding a weapon instead of a hot plate of food. Even though her stomach twisted painfully, she didn't want anything from Nickola. She was independent, she was strong, she was- Her stomach gurgled needly and her resolve withered. "Maybe just a little," she mumbled, letting the colours fall. -

(She hadn't entered the room yet lol)
The woman walked inside. She looked to be about Dahlia's age with brown hair, a freckled face, and green eyes. She set the tray of food in front of the girl.
"You can call me Maggie," she said. Her real name was Magenta, but she'd never liked it very much. "If you need anything, just ask me. I'm the only other person allowed near your room besides you-know-who." -
My brain has left me))
Dahlia shuddered at the thought of seeing him again. She looked at the tray of food, picking up a utensil and experimentally poking at it. "Why am I here? Where even am I?" she said, falling back onto the pillows propped against the bedframe. -
"You're in Italy, in Mr. Candrevo's estate," Maggie answered. She examined the place where Nickola had said the water had spilled, but it seemed to have dried up already. She internally shrugged. What he didn't know wouldn't hurt him.
She looked back at Dahlia. "Why you are here is a bit more complicated. Mr. Candrevo is part of the Underworld. He having an emotional connection to someone in the outer world is dangerous. You've already had an experience with this, so I've been told, from your time being kidnapped by Ivan. It's dangerous to you, and it's also dangerous to Nickola, so in his ultimate wisdom he decided to keep you here with him." She said the last part with a bit of sarcasm in her voice. It was clear she wasn't the very fondest of Nickola. -
Dahlia's face lost what touches of color it had before, gripping the covers so tight her knuckles turned white. "Italy? I can't be here! I have a home, I have a job-" she began to panic, her breathing quickening. "You have to let me out of here!"
-
Maggie quickly poured Dahlia a glass of water. She wasn't sure if she would allow her close to her, but she sat down on the bed near her anyway and gave her the glass of water.
"Don't panic," Maggie said, rubbing soothing circles on Dahlia's back. "I understand that it's a huge and horrible thing you're going through, but panicking won't do you any good in this situation, it won't help you escape. You need a clear mind." -
Dahlia took the glass of water, drinking it sip by sip and trying to calm down. She could feel her eyes starting to water with the new hydration and she blinked quickly. "I- can't- stay here!" she managed. She drew in a deep shuddering breath, closing her eyes tightly. "I can't. I can't do this.
-
"If you don't try to do anything, you won't be able to do it," Maggie said. "You need to try to figure out a way to escape. I'll do as much as I can to help you. You don't deserve any of this, you need your freedom."
(I have no idea what I'm doing lol) -
Neither do I lol))
Dahlia set the glass down on the bed, curling her legs up against her chest with a shuddering sigh. "I'll figure something out. I can't stay here forever. I won't," she said, her eyes burning before looking over at Maggie. "Why are you helping me? Is this some sort of sick trap?" -
Maggie shook her head. "No," she said. She stood up and opened the door. Just as she was about to leave, she turned to Dahlia and said, "Never give up fighting. Not like I did."
And with those words, she left. -
Dahlia stared at the door, feeling confused and frightened and hopeful all at once. It was a conflicted feeling and with a troubled expression, she walked over to the barred window. Between the cracks, she could see a beautiful city. But it wasn't her city. Gripping the cool metal rods that contained her, she pressed her forehead against them, allowing them to leech away what warmth they could take.

The hours passed until Nickola came in. He saw Dahlia looking bored out of her mind. "Let's go for a walk," he said.
