But she was wrong.
It was the bathroom that was on fire.
Smoke could be smelt from everywhere in the house.
When Scarletta stepped inside, her face turned happier than normal.
"Ooh, how wonderful! Humans have nice smelling houses." Scareletta said joyfully. -
"No, that's a bad smell," Evelyn said backing out of her house.
-
"Bad? This is literally the best smell in the world!" Scarletta exclaimed, taking a deep breath of the air.
-
"Maybe in hell, but not in the world," she said. She called 911 for a firetruck
-
Not long after, the firetruck arrived carrying five firemen.
They stormed into the house with hoses in their hands and put out the fire.
When the fire was put out and the smoke had faded away, three of the five firemen came out, a look of surprise on their faces.
"The fire only stayed in the bathroom, surprisingly." One of them explained. "You must have really good fireproof rooms." -
A look of confusion was evident on her face. "No," she said. "They're just normal walls."
-
"Well then, did you put anything special on them?" They asked.
-
"I didn't, no," she said.
-
The two firemen looks at each other wearily, confusion plastered all over their faces.
“Miss, you’ll need to come to the police station for question.” One of the firemen said slowly, trying to keep his tone comforting and kind. -
"Okay," Evelyn nodded as she wrapped her arms around herself. How was she supposed to explain this to them? She'd try to leave out the demon part as much as she could.
-
Once they had arrived at the station, Evelyn was taken into a tiny room for questioning.
“First off, who did you buy the house from?” An officer questioned. -
"A man called David Pratt," Evelyn answered. "What's that have to do with the fire?"
-
“Did he say anything about walls being fire proof or something similar to that?”
-
"Not a thing," Evelyn said. "The house would have been way out of my budget if it had fireproof walls."
-
“Then can you explain why the fire didn’t spread?”
