Tessa got out of the city just before the gates closed for the night. She was wearing commoner's clothes, but looking at her face you could tell she usually didn't work the fields.
She wrapped her cloak tighter around herself as the night went on and the air cooled.
Tessa knew she should have done this before the wedding. Because now she was a married woman. She shuddered at the thought that right now she was supposed to be having her wedding night. Her now-husband had been way too eager for it to happen for her liking.
She curled up under a tree and slept there for the night, too tired to continue on until morning.
