Julian sighed and leaned back, running his hands through his black hair. He couldn't do anything about it now but hope and pray.
-
Bella looked up and down the road before choosing to go left, towards the park. She walked down the street, passing under the newly lit streetlights. She saw the entrance to the park, and something drew her inside.
-
Julian gazed up at the half cloudy sky with the birds flying across it. He just tried to empty his mind. It helped him organize his thoughts somehow.
-
Bella drifted around the park, unfocused on everything but the path in front of her. It had to lead her where she was supposed to be. It just had to.
-
Julian exited his blank state of mind. He felt a little better but not much. He wondered how she would have fared if he had gotten there in time. Just a little sooner.
-
Bella turned a corner of the path and stopped, staring out a opening of the park. Benches lined the sides, and most of them were empty. Except one. The one.
-
Julian looked around for a moment, only half paying attention to his surroundings, when he nearly jumped off the bench in shock. He blinked again to make sure he wasn't imaging things. The girl that he had just seen in a coma was just out and about!
-
Bella tilted her head to the side. The bench. No, the bench. The person on it...She stepped towards him and sat down next to him.
"Who are you?" she whispered, barely audible. "Why do I know you?" -
"I – You were in a car crash and I was the one that pulled you out," Julian said. "But you were in a coma...how?"
-
-
"I'm...sorry, I don't know what you're talking about." Isabella held out her hand for him to shake, but then withdrew it quickly. "Maybe that's not a good idea."
-
"You may not remember," Julian said. "You were hit pretty hard and were in a coma. I just don't understand how you're up and walking."
-
"A coma? No, I...don't remember." She bit her lip, and added, "Sorry," in case the young man knew her somehow and her not remembering him would offend him.
An old lady with a dog walked by and glanced at Julian, raising an eyebrow, before hesitantly waving. Her view on the scene was quite strange. -
"There was a lot of wreckage," Julian said. "Some of it is probably still there. We can go there if you want and maybe you'll remember something."
-
Bella nodded, but her hand shot up to her head. "Ow," she breathed. She saw a blurry image of a young woman, who looked a lot like her. Maybe her mother?
She looked up, the image gone. "Okay. That sounds fine." She didn't know why she trusted him so much, but she smiled at him happily. "Oh, by the way. What's your name?"
