  Two different species (elf and dragon, human and dragon, human and elf, whatever you want, but preferably both mythical) have been living in a completely different world for centuries.
  A major problem happens in (insert one species)'s realm, and the only thing they can do is ask the other species for help. They have a portal they can use to enter the other species' realm. The portal goes both ways. The two characters meet somehow.
