Sooooo, what I think is:
Lucifer was about to kill Claire, before she died, Claire told Adrian not to love anyone else. Or Adrian said it. -
I'm going to tell you now, but you have to promise to keep Jewel COMPLETELY oblivious to it, have her only stay curious until he tells her.

(Gonna do this in multiple posts because suspense)
So Adrian grew up in an orphanage. He was shunned by everyone. He ran away from there before he was old enough to leave.
Anyway, a few years later he fell in love with Claire and she loved him back. She was half mage half human.
And then he made the worst possible decision of his entire life.
He made a deal with the devil. -
Lucifer made him a murderer. Whispering to him in the night, sending him images of the people he wanted Adrian to end, urging him to pick up the knife and kill.
Whenever Adrian killed he felt a sensation that could only be described as pleasure. He was disguised so that no one but his victim could see who he was when his knife sank into their heart.
Then one time while he and Claire were walking down the streets together, Lucifer urged him to kill her. And without a thought he did.
When he saw the life draining out of Claire, he screamed in horror at what a monster he had become. He tried to help her, tried to save her, but she was dead. -
Henry was visiting America. He found Adrian broken and asked him who he was and what happened. When Adrian told him Henry said that there was a ritual that could be done that could break the contract between him and Lucifer. Adrian accepted right away.
So the two of them went to England, where Adrian met Tessa, James, and Kendril.
They had to keep Adrian restrained, especially at night, so that he wouldn't be able to do what Lucifer wanted.
The ritual was horribly painful for Adrian, but he went through with it to the end. The contract was gone.
The next few nights Lucifer tried to get Adrian back into the deal, but Adrian wouldn't. Eventually, Lucifer stopped for awhile.
But Adrian can still sometimes hear Lucifer whispering to him, "Get up, get going, I have a job for you tonight." -
