Sitting on her bed, Katana sighed. It wasn't easy appearing fierce all the time. In her room, she was vulnerable. Weak. Which was why she never, ever let anyone in.
-
Caroline sat down in the cafeteria. The food wasn't good, but she was practically starving so she scarfed it down. She winced as she picked up a utensil, a fresh splash of blood staining her bandages.
Tendril smiled to himself. It was fun to have a little toy to mess around with, but his apprentice was proving herself to be much more than just that. He might not be able to manipulate her quite as easily. -
Boops

(Whoopsy)
Harper took slow bites out of his food. What if there wasn't a Linnus? What if they weren't trained to kill? What if dreams and hopes didn't have to be crushed? -
Time was up. Katana stood up and left her room, making her way to the cafeteria. She ducked under the counter leading into the kitchen and took a tray, filling it up with the less gross food. One of the cooks gave Katana a dirty look and she hissed, showing her sharped canines.
-
Tendril thought carefully. Since fear didn't seem to be working on this one, he would have to befriend her and gain her trust. Then, and only then, would he be able to use her to his advantage.
Caroline carefully lifted up a spoonful of some suspicious mash and tasted it. Almost instantly, she gagged. Gross! It tasted like food garbage and she barely noticed her instructor sit down next to her.
"It tastes disgusting because it has all sort of different things in it," Tendril said, eating a spoonful. "That's why it's so nutritious. It could definitely use a little salt, though."
"What are you playing at?" Caroline said suspiciously.
"Nothing," Tendril lied. -
-
Harper's wheels were spinning in his mind. So much could happen. But how would he be able to tell anyone else about his ideas? He'd have to figure this all out.
-
-
Katana, carrying her tray of food, sat down alone at an empty table. She began slowly picking at her food, occasionally shoving a piece of food into her mouth when nobody was looking.
-
-
"You're my mentor, not my friend. Get away from me or I'll-" Caroline began. Tendril leaned in closer, his eyes glittering maliciously.
"You'll do what, exactly? Attack me? We both know you're far too pitiful for that. Tell someone? They. Won't. Care. You're mine," Tendril said. Caroline resisted the urge to shudder. He was creepy. -
Soon lunch was over. They had a little free time now.
-
Katana stood up and dumped her tray into a trash bin, then walked down the hallway leading to the library. She rarely ever was in there, and if she was, it was likely researching fighting techniques. But today she was there for a more personal reason.
-
A loud sound signalled the end of lunch. Tendril sat up and his expression changed from cold and calculating to warm and friendly instantly. "Come, join for a walk."
Caroline didn't want to, but she figured that she didn't have much of a choice. She sighed and tossed her tray into its bin. "Fine," she said, anger biting her voice.
