The drive to the venue seemed to stretch for an eternity, but once they arrived, time started to fly by. The anount of people at the front of the venue was appaling. Even Adrian didn't expect this much of a turn out. Did this many people actually like the show? Him, and his "chaperones" made their way through the back door before anyone could notice. The anount of people he saw, made his heart race. If something extremely bad happened...there would be no end to the scorn he would face.
"Don't worry about it..."
Adrian sighed, and took a deep breath. When the show happened, he wouldnt be in control anyway. But, he would have to deal with the aftermath, and he wasn't entirely sure of what that meant. Not this time around. Adrian made his way to his backstage room, and closed the door behind him. He felt something in his chest stir. An intuitive feeling perhaps. The strong force was getting closer. Maybe, maybe this was his chance at redemption?
"There is no redemption for you. You are mine now...
The voice was louder this time, and seemingly more problematic. He had to figure out a way to get out of the deal he made. Otherwise, there was no hope for his future. Adrian slammed his fist on the table in front of him. It was time for his co-host to take over. As he did so, Adrian slipped away, watching through his eyes like a movie, but unable to control his words, or actions. -
The girls were relieved to finally be let into the venue. It was a dark place with the distinct scent of years of spilled drinks that Diana had become accustomed to. She decided that she'd definitely been to this location before, as she almost tripped over a step she'd hurt herself on in the past.
Once the girls got completely inside, Tiffany dragged them as close to the stage as possible. Naya groaned something lamenting the lack of seats on the main level, which was unintelligible over the buzz of the crowd.
"Who is this group we're seeing anyway?" Diana asked Tiffany, who shrugged.
"I've never heard of them. But I saw a flyer on the bulletin board at the music shop, and you know how Quinn who works there owed me a favor?" Tiffany went off on a long story about how she was able to get the girls tickets for really cheap, and which of her friends had said the show would be promising, as who else would be there. At this point Diana wasn't listening. She was too busy scanning the room for the eyes she felt on her, but no matter where she turned it felt as though someone was staring at the back of her head. She shrugged the feeling off and attributed it to pre-show jitters. -
(Sorry for my late response. Life has been a bit hectic lately.)
As the time neared for the show to start, a set of lights were pointed at the main stage. They started to dim, and a voice could be heard over the loudspeaker that was above the stage.
"Ladies and gentleman! Welcome to tonights show! I assure you, tonight, you will have the time of your life! And as always, expect the unexpected."
Adrian watched through his eyes as his body stepped forward. It was so weird, not being in control. Being on the inside, fully aware what was happening, but unable to do anything. From what Adrian had gathered, the demon that inhabited his body was Asmodai. He was the most powerful King in Hell, right beneath Satan himself. Adrian took and deep breath, and crossed his fingers. Hopefully nothing would go wrong tonight, after all that presence gave him hope.
Asmodai made his way to the stage, stretching his body and yawning. Tonight's performance was going to be the icing on the cake. He smiled, and laughed slightly. He couldn't wait to see the audiences faces, but after all, to them it would seem like a stunt. Nothing more, nothing less. He walked toward the side entrance of the stage, and awaited his cue.
And here's the man of the hour you all have been waiting for, along with his team of rag-tag misfits, The Masked Devil!"
Asmodai walked onto the stage, his arms outstretched and a grin on his face. He gave a quick bow to the audience then made his way across the stage. They had drawn a big crowd tonight. Word must have been getting around. -
(I was about to say the same thing actually, haha)
Diana turned her attention to the stage. The Masked Devil? That was what Tiffany had brought her to see? The audience seemed to know this guy well, because applause roared and the crowd surged, pushing Diana up against the stage. She couldn't believe it. She'd never even heard of this person and here she was, a foot away from the speakers.
She watched as the "Masked Devil" appeared onstage and gave a bow. The sight of him made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. Something about him seemed eerie, but she couldn't place it. Was it something to do with the whole devil shtick? -
Asmodai scanned the crowd and twirled into a circle, his red suit now turning into a silk black color. The energy in the room tonight was enough on it's own to cause a little chaos magic. He smirked, and opened his right hand causing a raven to fly out into the crowd. "Tonight is a show of mystery and mayhem. Chaos and disbelief. I assure you, everything you see happen on this stage is real." He pointed into the crowd and caused light rain droplets to fall into the crowd. Something felt off. There was a strong pulse in the crowd. He shook his head, and closed his hands, causing the rain to stop. "Whether you believe it's magic, or reality...is up to you!"
He tried to shake this feeling off as he continued. He did normal things that could just be countered off as normal 'mortal' magic, but this would certainly be dispelled this time. "Ladies and gentlemen, I have a story for you!" Asmodai clapped his hands together, spinning back into his red suit. "Once, when I was a young boy, back when dragons were real and mystical creatures ruled the land; there was a creature that fisherman told tales of. A sea creature that turned the seas itself red." As he told his story, the wind picked up in the venue, and rain droplets started to pour on the audience. As the rain fell, they started to turn pink, then a dark red.
"The fishermen said this creature could not be tamed, for it had killed many a crew and drug them into the depths of the sea." As Asmodai spoke, screams and splashing could be heard, and he started to leviate in the air. His suit whipped in the wind, and he whispered a couple of words. A hole could be seen appearing on the bottom of the stage. -
"s---!" Diana yelled. She had been willing to dismiss the light mist as just sprinklers, but this? She was soaked, covered in the liquid that she was becoming convinced wasn't water.
She didn't believe in magic. Not this kind, anyway. She tried as hard as she could to rationalize everything that was happening. Hoses? Fans? Trap doors in the stage?
Tiffany screamed beside Diana, she'd slipped and fallen. The wind had plastered Naya's lo g ponytail to her face. Diana grabbed hold of the stage to steady herself.
"I think we should leave!" She called to her friends. -
Asmodai grinned wildly, as the rain continued to pick up and the hole in the stage widened. "When I had heard the tales of these fisherman, I myself could not believe the tales they were telling. I had to go see for myself." He started to cackle as the wind and rain suddenly stopped. The hole in the stage had stopped widening. "And when I did, what I saw made my heart stop, but alas! If I had stayed still, I would have been killed by this ruthless beast!" As soon as Asmodai had shouted the word beast, the creature rose up from the depths of the hole.
It looked as if it was a distant cousin to a dragon. It had three heads, each on of them intently entranced at someone in the audience. The middle ones mouth wide open, revealing its sharp teeth and long tongue.
Asmodai smiled as he lowered himself onto the middle hydra's head. "Scared yet?" he chuckled. Some people in the audience nodded their head, while others stood in shock. His attention though, was drawn to a trio of girls who looks absolutely terrified. He snapped his fingers and everything returned back to normal on stage. "I promise, it's just a bit of illusionary magic. Nothing more nothing less." He chuckled.
"Now, this is the time for an intermission! If you need anything, go get it and come back to enjoy the rest of the show!" He chuckled, stepping backstage. He had to make this fast. With a snap of his fingers his whole body composition changed. It was painful to say the least, but it had to do. He made his way toward the audience. He had to find those girls, and ask them some questions. They had peaked his curiosity. He felt that them, of all places is where the energy was coming from. He just couldn't distinguish who it was. -
Diana was breathless as Tiffany picked herself up off the floor. "What the hell was that, Tiff?" Naya asked. "You made it sound like this was a concert!"
"It was supposed to be just a simple magic show!" Tiffany responded. "I didn't realize it'd be so immersive!"
Diana kept her gaze on the stage. How did he do it? She wondered. Was it projections? Screens? She shook her head and turned to her friends.
"I'm going to go get something to eat." She said. "I don't think this was a good thing to see on an empty stomach." She pushed her way through the crowd and out to the lobby. -
As he made his way through the crowd, the energy grew stronger. It was like a subtle force, pusing him away, yet pulling him closer. Maybe it had something to do with the body he possesed, and the soul within. There was only one true way to get to the bottom of this, and it was to find her, whomever she was. Asmodai paused for a second, and made it look as if he was looking for a friend. He noticed the group of girls in the distance, but one was missing. He internally sighed, and trekked onward. His muscles were starting to tire from transforming into this form.
He pushed through the crowd, and followed the energy pulse into the lobby. The room itself was almost empty, which was good. It meant he could transform back into his "Masked Devil" form seamlessly. As he walked, his form began to flicker, and shape back into his red suit and show clothes. He could see the girl he was looking for, getting a refreshment and smiled. The mask was slightly obscuring his vision, so he fixed it before he moved on. As he stood there, he could feel everyone in the room, staring and gawking at him. He shook it off, and tapped the girl on the shoulder.
This was the moment he had been waiting for. -
Diana jumped as someone tapped her on the shoulder. Expecting it to be one of her friends, she turned, and jumped again when she saw it was none other than the Masked Devil himself!
"I, uh-" She wasn't sure how to react. She couldn't help but stare at his mask, and at the eyes it nearly obscured. Through the corners of her eyes she could see the few others in the room were watching the interaction intently. She felt the hairs on the back of her neck raise again.
What could the mysterious Masked Devil possibly want from her? She tried to reason with herself that it was probably something simple, like perhaps she had dropped something, but even that seemed unlikely. -
"Hello!" He stated, as happy and as joyful as he could muster. "I would like to read your fortune after the show, if you're okay with that." A smirk flashed across his face as he looked her in the eyes. Normally, he could look at anyone amd read them like a book, but her. She was different, and he wanted to know why. He also wanted to know why Adrian felt such a pull to her as well. After all, magic was the point of him being here. Why not use it for some personal gain as well? He would still get Adrians soul, and all would be well.
Hell, he might even come out with another if he played his cards right. He extended his hand. "It's nice to meet you, Diana." He whispered her name as they shook hands, and grinned. Tonight, Asmodai would make sure Adrian never saw the glimpse of redemption. Even if it meant risking it all. -
What caught her off guard at first was how casual he sounded. She had explained this man who had just put on the most impressive acts of illusion she'd ever seen to speak in the same voice he used onstage, but here he seemed like a person. After the initial surprise, it was what he said That surprised her. Her fortune? why would he track her, of all people, out into the lobby to offer a fortune reading? Something about the way he looked at her made her realize that this wasn't his typical procedure. There was something more. But the largest shock was still yet to come.
He knew her name. This one made her freeze. She stared at him in awe as he shook her hand, which she hadn't realized she'd extended. She hadn't mentioned her name, had she? Her brain searched for a possible explanation. A good guess? Probably not. A prank set up by her friends? Also unlikely. The only explanation she could wrap her head around is that she must have met this man some time before, without the mask or the illusions.
Inside her purse, her phone buzzed. Most likely her friends checking in. This drew her from her shock. "I... okay..." -
The grin that sketched across Asmodai's face couldn't conceal his happiness. "Meet me back-stage after the show." He turned and walked away, people starting at him made his way back into the inside of the venue. Although Asmodai knew this was necessary, he could feel Adrian trying to take the spot light. He felt the inside of his body rumble, and it felt...painful. Nothing like this has ever happened before.
Adrian looked outside from within and screamed. He needed to find a way to get out, or dispell this demon from his body. He looked around, but had no luck. He was just floating in the endless abyss of his mind. If he wanted to save this girl before it was to late, he was going to have to formulate a plan. And fast.
Just as soon as the pain came, it went. Asmodai straighted his walk, and marched his way through the crowd. Every person he passed, just stared at him. "Ladies and gentlemen! Are you ready for more?" He looked at the audience and smiled at their reactions. It was a chorus of whistles, and "Yeah's!". He nodded as he walked back up onto the stage, and sat down cross-legged. He could feel the droplets of rain from his previous "trick", and it made him anticipate this act even more. -
Dazed, Diana didn't even finish ordering her drink before she returned to her friends. She couldn't believe what had just happened, or that she'd agreed to get her fortune read of all things. The air in the venue was still moist from the first act, and Diana felt clammy.
"What? You didn't even get me drink?" Tiffany whined. "I texted you and everything!"
"Sorry," Diana said. "I got distracted." She watched as the Masked Devil made his way onstage and the crowd went wild. How was nobody else as unsettled as she was? She bit the inside of her cheek as he sat down. -
As Asmodai scanned the crowd, the lights on the stage dimmed. "This next tale will not be for the faint of heart." His voice cracked slightly, as he scanned the crowd. He raised his arms, and started to levitate again. His suit changed into a royal purple color. "After the hydra had been tamed, and sent on its way, all was well for a little while. Then, the king threw a royal ball to celebrate what had been done." As Asmodai said this, the sound of an orchestra playing could be heard behind the audience. On stage there were various couples dancing. The ladies in eloquent silk ball gowns and the gentleman in fetching silk suits.
A stunning woman in a royal purple gown that was adorned in purple gems of every shade, stood next to Asmodai and asked him for a dance. He accepted her offer and they could be seen levitating, and dancing for several minutes. It was as if the demon himself was in a trance. Soon, he snapped out of it though. "As soon as this dance was over, the king stood up and made a speech, thanking everyone who came and asking to see the person who had tamed the hydra." He said this part, as if he had some regrets, but we walked up the misty, mirage of a staircase. He stood next to a man that was squat of nature, and dressed in white and gold clothes. The king turned to looked at him. His eyes glistened as if he was hiding something more sinister beneath them. "Would you like to take my daughter's hand in marriage?"
"But, I had to idea who his daughter was." He said out into the audience, he grinned slightly. "So I asked! It was the young woman who was in the eloquent royal purple ball gown. When I saw her, my jaw dropped. I felt foolish if I didn't take the oppurtunity to take her hand in marriage." Asmodai walked down the stairs, and they disappeared as soon as be place his foot off stage.
[Sorry for the slow build up. It will be good, I promise 😅]
