"Either way, she isn't telling us the whole truth," Oliver said.
-
"Definitely," Imogen said. "But why?"
-
"I don't know," Oliver said. "Maybe she's trying to protect him."
-
"Maybe," Imogen said.
-
"I say we talk to the maid," Oliver said.
-
"Except we need to find her first," Imogen spat out.
-
"That's true," Oliver said. "Which leaves Hannah. Many underestimate a child, but most are brutally honest, which would be a refreshing change of pace."
-
"Yeah," Imogen sighed.
-
Oliver drove over to the house first, seized the cat, and then drove them over to the place where Hannah was staying. As soon as she saw them, she rushed over and hugged them.
"It's so lonesome here," she said, her eyes brightening. "My cat!" -
"I never would've thought to bring that," Imogen remarked.
-
"I suspected she might need familiar company," Oliver said. Hannah hugged the cat tightly. "As usual, you ask and I'll note."
-
Imogen crouched down to Hannah's level. "Hannah, can you tell me everything that happened the night that your father died. Even the things that didn't involve you."
-
"I can try," she said, sitting down. "Hamilton called everyone for dinner, and there was Nina, and Daddy, and Mommy, and this man. I remember his name was Sebastian, it was so funny. Anyhow, Daddy told me a big secret. He made me promise not to tell."
-
"It might help us if you told us," Imogen said.
-
"But he made me promise," Hannah said.
"How about this? Give us a hint and we'll guess it. Say no if we're wrong, and don't say anything if we're right. How about that?" Oliver said.
Hannah's eyes brightened. "Okay. Sebastian and Mommy look similar for a reason."
