What if instead of killing the king they kidnap the princess/prince to hold for ransom or something? Just spitballing here. -

I have a few ideas but I'm at work right now, I'll add more to this later but basically
A) The king hires people to kidnap one of his children because he wants the other one to inherit the throne
B) The king isn't really a king at all, but the brother to the last king who stepped in after his death until his nephew/niece is old enough to take the thorne. He wants to keep the throne however, so he has people kidnap his brother's child, who would take the throne when he turns 18 -

But I keep coming back to the question of.. Why would the uncle keep the heir alive? Instead of having him kidnapped, why wouldn't he just have him killed?

Okay IDEA: some of the group sent to kill the heir are double agents, actually in allegiance with some organization that needs the heir alive? So they disrupt the killing and kidnap the heir from the kidnappers?
