The bell rang, and Tessa was out of the classroom. She caught a glimpse of Cavin bolting through the halls before he ran right smack into her. She tumbled to the ground, dropping everything that was in her arms. "Cavin . . ." she said, sitting up.

"We gotta go," Cavin said hurriedly. "I'll explain on the way."

"What?" Tessa asked. "I don't understand." She started picking up her books that she had dropped.

"Someone was talking about their 'father's business' and asked another person if they'd made contact with you yet. And when they found out I was there, one of them overreacted," Cavin said, helping her with her books.

Tessa looked up. 'Father's business.' That had to mean her dad, or the father of people in an enemy gang. "Not good," she said. She let her books fall to the ground. "I have to go."

"That's what I've been saying," Cavin muttered. "Hurry, they must be coming!"

Tessa looked at him. "You can't come," she said.

Cavin raised his eyebrows. "Care to explain?"

"My dad . . . " she started, but then said, "It's too hard to explain."

Cavin sighed. "I'm sure you could if you wanted to. Well, I have to run as well. If those people are dangerous, they'll probably try to...silence me."

Tessa paused a moment, then said, "Alright, let's go."

Cavin pushed her books more or less out of sight and followed after Tessa.

Tessa ran to the nearest exit. She rammed it open, and started running. Anywhere.

Yuno was quickly stealthily following them.

Cavin followed after her. He knew his opponents were fast, but he had an advantage. He knew this city like the back of his hand.
"There," he whispered to Tessa, cutting into an abandoned building.
