"I... I never did." Hailey sighed. "The Reapers told me its common for people who met their soulmates and died before them to be unable to know their purpose. Soul mates usually do their jobs together, with the exception of children that died young and grew up doing a different job than their soulmate." She explained. "I was thinking of being a Haunter after you moved on, knowing you'd want me to move on, but they told me I'm not meant for it. I think I'm a Caller actually... Though I'm not too sure. Jobs are much more broad here than they are in the human world." She explained.
-
Liam nodded. "Hopefully with me here you can find your purpose, and I can find mine." He added. "Is there anything you wanted to say to me? I always looked for some sort of communication, but it seems now that I'm dead, we can have that." Liam wanted everything to be perfect, and without conflict.
-
"Well, there isn't any alcohol in the after life, thought you should know." She chuckled, her voice a much more teasing tone than the tense tone it was originally. "You didn't blame yourself... Did you? For the car crash? Most people blame themselves when something like this happens, but it was my fault. I shouldn't have checked the phone while driving... You know that right?" She asked him, wanting to make sure that his drinking problem wasn't caused by him blaming himself.
-
"I should have not texted you." Liam replied sadly. "If I didn't distract you, this wouldn't have happened." He sat down, looking gloom. "You were checking because of my text, correct?" He asked.
-
"Hey, it's not your fault. I could have waited until I stopped the car, or even pulled over. It's not your fault. Okay? The only thing I blame you for is that girl you fell for, but that's just me being petty." She assured him, her voice a teasing tone with the last bit, but sincere with the first.
-
Liam sighed, relieved. He spent most of his years drinking away the feelings of anger he thought Hailey had. But it was nonexistent, so while he feels he became an alcoholic for nothing, he is glad that the feeling he tried to drink away was not real.
-
"So, want to go see where we go to keep an eye on the living? You could see how that girl's doing... Get some closure at least." Hailey suggested, standing up.
-
"Sure." Liam stood up. While he liked that girl, the girl he was with now is the only girl he wants to see. "I'm not sure if I want to see her...but our puppy." Liam has always liked animals.
-
Hailey felt reassured at the fact that he didn't want to see the girl he had dated, feeling that this confirmed that he cared more for her. "There's a special place in the after life reserved for Dogs." Hailey told him. "Dog souls are wholesome and so there's an entire country in the afterlife that they have to themselves. Many Assistants and Guardians work and live there, and most people go there for vacation." She continued as they left the house.
-
Liam looked at Hailey. "Really?" He asked. He couldn't believe he would be able to see his beloved puppy again.
