Barin smiled to Tiana, staring into her eyes. He hummed delightfully and leaned back against the bench, his eyes never leaving her form. "It was surely my father's idea. Hoping for me to find a bride, someone to help me reign his Kingdom one day," Barin said. "And quite frankly, I am rather glad he had suggested the idea," He hummed. Barin remained silent for a few moments, rubbing his hands together. "I was rather nervous when I met you," Barin allowed for him to relax within the comfort of Tiana's presence. "I heard quite a few things about you, Tiana," He continued. "You were supposedly selfish and cruel. I quite don't believe those rumors, and I do apologize but, people often times talk," Barin continued, hoping he wasn't making a fool of himself. "I can quite see there is some good in you. Some kindness," He said. "And I can't, can't wait to get to know you more," Barin continued.
"I've told you, Ta'ahine," Theodosia sighed. "We had these important guests arriving," Ta'ahine worked with the bouquets that were situated close to the garden, a wondrous bouquet of roses and sunflowers all neatly arranged. "And I didn't know that these important guests were to be such boring people," Ta'ahine said, her fingers gracing over the petals of a sunflower. "Not every guest that comes to visit is willing to join you in your foolery," Theodosia lectured. "But, not every guest has to be so uptight, such-such a stick in the mud. I don't have to work here, you know," Ta'ahine said. "But, you don't want to be stuck tending to your Birch tree now, do you?" She questioned. Ta'ahine sighed. "Now," Theodosia said, shaking her head with a sigh. "If you like, I know how much you hate these castle walls, I know how you hate being indoors. I'll allow you to return to the garden but, tend to the far side of the garden. But, work away from the princess and prince," Theodosia said. A smile adorned her lips, as she headed to the garden doors. "Thank you, Theodosia. You're getting soft on me," She teased. "Hurry along, Ta'ahine before I change my mind," Theodosia warned.
Ta'ahine spent not a minute wasted, traveling through the hedges, out of sight of the royals. She then soon reached the stone wall that boarded the garden and stood upon the stone wall. The vines wrapped around her feet and help keep her balance. Her arms outstretched as she walked along the stone wall's path. "What to do, what to do," She mumbled softly. "Oh, what should I do?" Ta'ahine asked herself, looking to the forest. She was pulled between two worlds; to play with the creatures of the forest and her friends by the stream or to distract her friends at the castle from their work to entertain her. A smile adorned her lips as she continued to walk lost in thought as the vines wrapped around her calves. -
Tiana blushed and looked away, feeling nervous from his stare. “Well... I am usually. That’s what my father’s always taught me. I suppose he wants me to be able to defend myself since my mother, based on what I know, was kind and ended up dying because of it. Of course, I don’t really remember her... I don’t remember anything before waking up in my room after the accident...” She told him, hesitating before undoing her usual bun, moving some hair to reveal a scar on her head. “I lost all memory from before... I think I was eleven... I have no idea what I was like before then, but my father has trained me to look out for myself and only myself. My tutor is especially The one to suffer from it. I think he’s probably preying for you as we speak.” She chuckled. “But... in all honesty, besides torturing my boring stuck up tutor, I don’t find joy in being irritable. I just do it because I know how. I’m not sure exactly how to go about kindness, it can be confusing, and a bit of a head ache. My father had originally planned that I was not to get married. He didn’t trust any man. He was going to make me Queen whether the Council liked it or not. I guess since your kingdom was so powerful he decided in his old age joining the kingdoms would be far easier on him.” She explained. “Now that getting married is in the picture... I’m not sure exactly what to think about my father’s teachings...” Tiana realized.
Farrim walked though the garden, making sure no one was looking before allowing his expression to relax, allowing his emotions to spill to the surface as he sat on a bench. He plucked a flower from its stem, smelling the sweet fragrance, dropping the flower when the image of that girl came into mind. She gave him all sorts of feelings... lust, desire, curiousity... all dangerous... Farrim sighed as he shook off the emotion, standing to see the girl climbing the wall. ‘I should go the other direction.’ He decided, his brain ordering his body to walk away from the girl. However it didn’t work out that way. “Trying to escape?” He asked, unknown to the fact she wasn’t owned by the castle like other servants as he kept his emotionless appearance. -
Barin reached his hands touching along the scar; his finger traced along the scar, some fingers brushing across the locks of her hair. “Had...Had you asked the servants? The others involved in the accident?” He asked. Barin soon allowed his hands to fall to his lap and used one to fiddle with the vines that wrapped around the armrest. “I-I am sorry that must’ve been a bit too personal for you. I didn’t mean to pry,” Barin continued. “I, however, believe you can think for yourself and be as kind as need be,” He said. “Whether you wish to marry me or not within the future all entirely depends on you, Tiana,” Barin stood, shying his nervousness away with a smile. “Well, why don’t I take you around the Kingdom rather than the castle? There are dozens like it but, the people within each Kingdom are different..” He spoke, his hand outstretched to her. “How about I take you to one of the few places I visit when I have the time?” Barin questioned. “I can sneak you away with some help from Franklin and Farrim would never know,” He said. “What do you say..” Barin gestured to his hand. “Want to be a little rebellious with me today?” Barin asked. He gazed to Tiana, a sense of confidence, a sense of pride springing to life throughout his form he couldn’t quite contain the excitement. Barin smiled, he was certain to enjoy more time spent with the supposed selfish princess.
“Escape..” Ta’ahine repeated with laughter soon leaving her lips. “I suppose you don’t know, only been here for an hour or so,” Ta’ahine turned to face the vampire. “I’m not like the other servants. I’m not locked down to the castle or any true ties to the Kingdom,” Ta’ahine said. She allowed herself to be settled gently to the ground. She looked to the vampire with such curiosity, such pure wonder flickering in her eyes. Ta’ahine allowed a smile to grace her lips, shifting her gaze from the vampire. “I like it here. Far better than spending time with the other Dryads,” She mused. “Now, where’s your Princess? Aren’t you supposed to be protecting her, like a good guard I assume?” Her eyes flicked from the hedges to meet Farrim’s. “Or did you decide to take up on my offer about letting loose, about finally having some fun around here?” Ta’ahine questioned. -
Tiana blushed as he touched the scar, looking to him in surprise. “Well... alright. Just don’t tell that gardener. She may think I’m fun, and god forbid that.” Tiana chuckled with a smirk as she took his hand.
“Quite the contrary, Dryad. The Princess is the one who seeks to have so called fun. She dismissed me for now. Besides, if you have no ties to this kingdom, that makes you one of the things I have to protect her from. A possible threat.” He told her, no emotion in his voice as he avoided looking at her. -
Barin laughed and nodded. "Your secret is safe with me, Tiana," He said. With a gentle grasp of her hand, Barin led the princess to the garden doors, entering the castle. Lingering close was Franklin who smiled to the two, turning his attention from the maid he was speaking with. "Barin, escaping now with the princess, are you?" He nodded, a smile gracing his lips. "Will you help us?" Barin asked. Franklin nodded, gesturing for them to follow. It was quite simple getting to the door, without raising too much suspicion. Taking turns, and walking down the lesser populated halls to the front door. "I'll be back, and get the carriage ready," Franklin said. A moment of silence lingered and Barin turned to Tiana. "Do you like children?" He asked. "I'm not asking for in the future if we wed, just at the moment. I was thinking of taking a trip to the orphanage, they've been expecting me to visit," Barin said.
Ta'ahine couldn't help but laugh. "I'll have to find her later and get her to spend some time with me then," Ta'ahine mused. Listening to his words, it continued to cause her to giggle and laugh. "A possible threat? Me?" She questioned. "That's quite hilarious, sir," Ta'ahine said. "I can assure you I'm no threat to your Princess; I'm a gardener, what harm could I possibly do to her?" Ta'ahine said with a smile. With the wave of her hand, did a flower; a small simple blooming alstroemeria. She plucked the flower from the ground and allowing the stem to wrap around her finger, soon going around her wrist. Her fingers fumbled with the petals of the flower. Ta'ahine's gaze lifted to Farrim, her eyes lingering on his features. "You have..No emotion in your face at all," She said, stating quite the obvious. "Why..?" Ta'ahine asked. -
Tiana held in the urge to giggle as she looked around the castle, rather enjoying this. “Yes, I do like children.” She replied with a chuckle. She liked spending time with children because she hoped someday it would trigger her childhood memories to return to her. “You’re definitely a kind soul. It must be nice to have so much free time to excercise it. Most royals don’t have that luxury.” She added as she followed him.
Farrim showed no sign of being phased by her actions as he pushed himself to look her in the eyes. “I don’t feel emotion.” He lied, not showing any signs of lying however as he looked at the flower. “Any creature with no ties to my kingdom or this one is a threat to the Princess. I can name eighty four ways you could kill her with your plant powers alone, one hundred and seventy eight ways you could harm her with them.” Farrim informed her, his voice void of emotion. -
"Well, I do suppose I rather am lucky. With the stability of the Kingdom, I don't have to work as hard as the other princes and princesses. But, I do enjoy spending the free time I have with the civilians," Barin said. Franklin soon came, to the door, gesturing for them to follow. The carriage was just out front, and Barin guided Tiana to it. "Ladies first," Franklin said opening the door for Tiana. With Barin, willing to help her into the carriage.
Ta'ahine furrowed her brows. She didn't need to know whether he was lying or not; she knew, everyone felt emotions. Even the strictest maid of all, Ophelia who often times portrayed to just seem to have no emotions, and cared for no one. But, Ta'ahine knew she was quite the closed off person. Ta'ahine shook her head and playfully rolled her eyes. "I can assure you, I have no intentions on killing the princess." Ta'ahine's smile fell. "You feel emotion, I know you do," she said. "Everyone does," Ta'ahine hummed. She turned to the stone wall, covered in her vines. "You're just good at hiding it, kinda like Ophelia," She said. "I know there's some emotion there," She mused, allowing the flower stem to unwrap from her wrist and finger. Her lips quirked into a smile. She could tell there was something special about him. There was something he had to hide and her curious, young mind couldn't help but wonder what is it, eager to figure out the secret. Ta'ahine allowed the flower to be held between her fingers. She lifted to her toes and placed the flower behind his ear. Ta'ahine fixated at the petals for a moment laughing a bit. "Looks good on you," She teased. -
Tiana accepted the help, sitting in the carriage and looking out the window in thought. “Do your subjects know about my arrival? Because, if not, I think I’d rather they not know who I am. I could use my middle name, Clarice.” Tiana suggested, wanting an unpoisoned opinion on the subjects and non corrupt impression on them as well.
Farrim pinched his lips together, a blush betraying him as it crept onto his cheeks. He quickly shook it off, returning to his emotionless expression as he took the flower out of his ear and handed it back to her. “I’ve been trained to not have emotions. They are weakness.” He spoke. Unknown to Farrim, in his slow, forced speaking, his teeth were a bit more visible than usual, showing where his fangs were missing. -
"Most know a guest is to come to the Kingdom, more so the servants at the castle rather than the citizens. But, as long as we stray far from the rich than you wouldn't be recognized," Barin said as he climbed in soon after. Franklin has gotten into the carriage, after giving directions to the orphanage to the driver. "Should be there shortly," Franklin announced. Barin gazed to the princess, a small smile stretching to his lips. "You shall go by Clarice is you'd like once we arrive," Barin continued. Barin fidgeted with his fingers, his gaze shifting from Tiana to his fingers. Franklin leaned back and eyed his friend with a bit of a smirk stretching on his lips.
"Emotions, a weakness?" Questioned Ta'ahine, laughed. She leaned forward, peeked at the lack of his fangs. Ta'ahine leaned back, the grass from the garden, wrapping around her feet, and legs. "Oh," She mumbled, biting her bottom lip. "You certainly do feel emotions," Ta'ahine said. "Because a vampire without their fangs is quite the depressing sight, no?" She questioned. Ta'ahine twirled the stem of the flower between her fingers, frowning. "How did you lose them? Your fangs.." She asked. -
Farrim frowned, staring into space in silence for a second, before walking away without a word to continue scoping the garden. He felt his lips trembling, feeling embarrassed by it. He couldn’t bear to answer her question.
Tiana smiled and nodded, looking out the window and examining the kingdom. -
Ta'ahine kept her curious glance to him, her lips curving to a frown at the sight of his. Though, shock lingered on her features as she went after him. "My apologies, sir," She muttered, softly. "I.." Ta'ahaine began. Ta'ahine trailed a bit behind him, following him silently for a few moments. "Would you like to play a game with me?" Ta'ahine asked. "Or we could head to the stream, swim in the water, or-or," Ta'ahine stammered a bit. She felt guilty, she pushed him a bit too far, she knew it well. Ta'ahine bit her bottom lip, her glance shifting from the guard to her feet. "Get your mind off things, allow you to relax a bit," Ta'ahine hummed.
The subjects of the Kingdom brought the towns to life. Children playing amongst the others, mother lingering close as men worked and enjoyed their time. "Seems the people are quite lively today," Franklin piped up. The town's people turned to look to the carriage often times waving to the Prince who he returned the gesture. "They always get excited when I come to see them, don't be so surprised," Barin hummed, with a smile. It didn't take long to reach the east side of the town, where the streets were quieter and people kept to themselves. The carriage pulled to a stop and Franklin allowed himself out first. Barin stepped out as well, his hand outstretched to help the Princess out of the carriage. It wasn't long before children began pouring out of the small orphanage's doors. Laughter and children's chatter filled the air. They called to the two; "Prince Barin, Frankie!" The children chanted. A board smile graced Barin's lips. -
“I lost them because if I didn’t I would have been killed and my kingdom would have perished. I lost them because I’ve had no choice, and now because of that my career as a knight is hanging by a thread. If I fail this mission my thread will be cut and I’ll have nothing to live for. So excuse my Dryad, but now would be the worst possible time to relax.” Farrim snapped, mixed emotions cracking and pouring out his voice as he looked her in the eyes with a look of pain. However it quickly faded, replaced with lust, love, desire. Farrim began walking closer to her, before regaining his sense and shaking out the emotion. He looked at her with slight fear before turning to a bat and flying off.
As she looked out the carriage to see the cheerful citizens, a nagging feeling of familiarity started to poke around in her head. She quickly grasped it, tugging it like a rope desperately to try and remember, only to cause a searing headache. Letting go, Tiana held her head in pain, the pain slowly fading. She sighed before seeing they have arrived, with a soft smile she accepted the hand and climbed out of the carriage. -
Ta'ahine gazed to the fangless vampire and listened to his words, a frown reaching across her lips. The emotion filling his words caused her heart to race, and her palms to grow sweaty. Her gaze remained upon him, lifting them to look into his eyes. The emotions pooled themselves within his irises and she bit her bottom lip. With curiosity, with the butterflies that filled her stomach. Her feet feeling light as she approached him, at the same slow pace he had before he looked at her with fear. That fear that caused him to drift away from her. Ta'ahine swallowed thickly, feeling him slip from his fingers. However, she relished the moment that desire had encased both of them. Her cheeks warmed, and flushed, Ta'ahine rested her hands on them. Her fingertips were warmed with her cheeks and a small smile reached on her lips. "That's...New," Ta'ahine mumbled. Her entirety was filled with a desire for the guard, a desire she was unsure of but, made her feel wondrous. "Oh, the girls would love to hear about him," Ta'ahine giggled. She climbed the stone wall and began heading towards her home, quick to tell the girls. As she walked, each step she took roses would grow. Ta'ahine was enchanted by the feelings that sprouted on her chest: a feeling of desire, a feeling of love.
The children ceased their chanter and looked to the new woman who had stepped out of the carriage. "Who's she?" One young girl questioned, tugging on Franklin's arm. "Ah," Barin spoke up. "This is Clarice, she's new to the Kingdom. Treat her well alright," The children seemed to smile and nod to the Prince's request. Questions darted to Tiana filled the air and Barin couldn't help but laugh at the children's curiosity. "One question at a time, kiddos," Franklin said, attempting to relax the crowd. "If you ask too many questions we won't have time to play or read," The Prince called. The young boys and girls laughed at his words but, soon silence filled the air. "Clarice is from a neighboring Kingdom," Barin began. "Would you mind telling them a story about where you're from, Clarice?" Questioned Barin. "We could head inside and sit by the fireplace." He suggested. "Oh, please, would you tell us a story?" The children begged. "They won't stop until you do," Franklin mumbled, a small smile on his lips as he picked up a little girl, holding her in his arms. -
Farrim watched her from a tree, hoping that he hadn’t scared her. Then again, perhaps if he did she would stay away from him. However that wasn’t the case. Even though she was returning to the forest, it felt as if she was still there, inside him, running his heart wild. However as he watched her, she seemed thrilled and excited. Farrim sighed, knowing that he would be kicked from the Royal Gaurd from his lack of fangs anyways, and turned to a bat to follow her, curiousity overcoming him as he stayed hidden.
Tiana chuckled as she watched the children. “Alright, I suppose I could.” She replied, trying to think of a story from her kingdom that would be appropriate to tell the children as she entered, sitting by the fire place. “Well, once long ago, there was a large kingdom, a kingdom of Warriors. This kingdom was a wealthy kingdom of intelligence, patience, and order. However the kingdom was no stranger to war and chaos. The citizens were always ready, on the look out for trouble, and the King kept everyone in order. Even the smallest of children was taught to be strict and ready, except one. One little girl, an orphan that lost her parents in war. She had been a noble child in an enemy kingdom, but upon laying their eyes on the human girl of bright brown eyes and insanely curly red hair with thin cherry lips always smiling and uttering nothing but kind words, two warriors adopted the child and raised her as her own. Her name was Clarabelle, and she grew to be the strongest warrior in the kingdom. She had to be, being the only human. However that wasn’t what was special about her. Not her skill or strength, nor her intelligence and Quick wit. It wasn’t her fearlessness and bravery, nor the fact that she had perfect aim and technique with any weapon yet you saw her walking down the street like she had hands for feet. No. What made this girl stand out in the strict and orderly kingdom was her determination to be happy and share her happiness with others. Everyone in the kingdom loved her for it, and she made everyone there happy. When she became head of the Royal Guard, the soon to be King, who believed kindness to be a weakness from his father’s teachings, decided to test her. He took her to the dungeon and looked her dead in the eyes, asking one simple question. “Can you handle it?” He asked, his voice clear and deep, echoing off the dungeon walls. However she didn’t understand the question. He stood closer, his warm breath against her, but her looking unphased by it, looking back into his blank yet determined eyes with bold ones. “In this kingdom we fight in constant battle. We must punish enemies that attack us to protect our land. However you, you’re naive. You speak like a peacemaker yet act like a warrior. Which are you!?!” He explained, his voice raising with every word. “Can you handle war? Can you handle torture, death, bloodshed, can you make tough calls? Can you handle it?” He asked again more calmly. “As head of the Royal Gaurd, I don’t intend to merely fight in wars my prince. I intend to end them. So to your questions, I do not believe those things are needed to end a war, however if necessary to save lives I am not a stranger to bloodshed. I can handle being tortured myself I garuntee you I will not break under torture. I will put the lives of my ally’s before my self and my own life before the life of my enemies, but I will not disregard my enemy for they still have a life. I am both a peacemaker and warrior and I fully understand what kind of war you speak of. Now, if you pulled me down here from my training to ask me tedious questions all day, I’ll have you know I have solid answers for anything you through at me.” She told him, the Prince hardly able to keep up. He kept asking questions and sure enough she replied with solid answers each time. “Can you break an enemy? Can you torture information out of an enemy?” He asked. “I have my ways.” She told him. Then the Prince ordered her to try and break information from him, and so she did. Not right that minute, having kept silent. The Prince sighed, letting her return to her training. However over the next few weeks, a bond grew between the Commander and her Prince, and one day as a festival was hosted to lead their latest victory, the Prince pulled her aside to a beautiful hill overlooking the ocean, telling her secrets he hadn’t told anyone, her telling the same to him. When they reached the top, he gave the Commander a rose and revealed he had feelings for her. The commander then burst into laughter, putting the Prince on edge. She then explained that she had succeeded in getting information from him after all, proving torture wasn’t the only way to get the job done. The Prince then chuckled, planting a kiss on her lips. They got married and... lived happily ever after...” She told them the only happy story she knew, her mother’s story, her last sentence a bit forced, deciding not to tell the children what happened after marriage. -
Walking through the forest, she knew where each branch was, where each tree belonged. It was a wondrous sight as she walked, coming to the stream. Ta'ahine stepped into the stream, a smile stretching on her lips as she clung to the maid's dress that adored her clothing. The maid's dress became wet once she was in the stream. "Naira, Karin?!" Ta'ahine called to the waters. "Claire, Lara?" The Dryad called once more to the water spirits. Soft giggles were heard as two women formed from the waters. "Hello, Ta'ahine," Spoke Naira. "Hey, Tally," Claire spoke.
"Oh, I have so much to tell you," The Dryad spoke as she moved from the waters, sitting on the ground. Her legs swung back and forth, splashing the water with a board smile on her lips. "Uh oh, what gossip do you have to say this time around, Ta'ahine?" The girls laughed as Ta'ahine splashed water to them. "Well...Recall when I told you of princess coming to the castle?" The other nodded listening in to her story. "Well, there's this dashing man of a vampire. Oh, girls, he holds secrets only his eyes will tell. God, those eyes," Ta'ahine swooned. "He so mysterious, so...interesting," The words slipped through her lips with such delight. "But, I can tell; I can just tell that there's something about him I can't quite put my finger on. It makes me wish to know more of him, and to listen to his stories, to listen about him," Ta'ahine continued. "And-And the way he came to me, walking slowly while we locked our gazes with one another," Her cheeks flushed. She brought her fingers to her lips and let out soft giggles. "Someone's in love," Naira teased. "I am not! I've never been in love, and I'm not supposed to be. The elders told me so. They barely wish for me to leave my Birch tree, let alone go to the castle; a Kingdom where I don't belong to," Ta'ahine said. "Citlali would have my head if I were having such feelings about a vampire no less," She continued. "Sounds to me you are, sweet Ta'ahine," Claire hummed. "Nonsense," Ta'ahine huffed, leaning her back against the warm grass, looking to the treetops.
Barin stood close to the princess. He watched her with amusement flickering in his eyes, and the purest of joy crossing his lips. The children cheered and laughed. One of the youngest, Annie, had tugged on his sleeve, smiling up to him. "I like her," she said. "Me too," Barin whispered to her. The girl giggled and went to Tiana. "Can you tell us another one, please?" The young girl begged. "Please, please," She continued. "Oh, yeah. Tell us another one, please, Clarice?" The Prince questioned a smirk on his lips. He took a seat beside the Princess, his eyes never leaving her. "Unless you want to play a game with the children, the like playing games too," Barin spoke. "I'd rather listen to another story," Annie said, as the other children agreed. "It's up to you, Clarice," Barin said soon after.
