Kylie looked down to hide her blushing as he wrapped his arms around her waist. She placed her hands on his shoulders, feeling his heart beat. He hoped he couldn't feel her racing heart. "Okay..." Kylie replied, still trying to figure the entire thing out. Why was he doing this? They weren't really together... Were they? Was Jaden watching? Kylie looked around the court yard, seeing no windows for him to look through. Why was Jackson acting like this then?
-
"Okay so what do you say to the guy who invented zero?" he asks.
"Thanks for nothing" jackson says with a chuckle. -
Kylie couldn't help but laugh at that one. She rested her head against Jackson's chest, relaxing a bit. "Interesting. Did you hear about the broken pencil? He was depressed because the other pencils called him pointless." Kylie told him with a chuckle. She then remembered who she was talking to and lifted her head up away from his chest. Why did she feel so relaxed with a person she used to hate? Wait... Used to? She hated him... Right? Why was he suddenly acting so nice? Then, Kylie remembered the add on they made to the deal. The bet.
-
Jackson laughed heartily at her joke.
He took her hand and twirled her around, getting closer to her ear he whispers, "I guess we're dancing in the rain."
We are like two slow dancers who are never quite in-sync.
Dance with me darling and I'll show you what you mean to me. -
Kylie He was blushing wildly and she would have really enjoyed this, but she was too busy coming to a realization. He was trying to win the stupid bet... Then he would just use her, and move on. This was the way he was. Hundreds of girls must have heard that speech from him. It's not like you can just make a speech like that on the spot. He had practice.
Pulling away from him, Kylie quickly took off the blazer and gave it back to him. Luckily, she had found another wall to keep him from getting to her before it was too late, and she wasn't taking any chances. She would slam this wall into him if she had to.
"You're an a--hole! Stop it! Stop pretending you care about me. People like you don't care about anyone. For a minute I... for some reason.... almost thought otherwise... Good thing I remembered our stupid bet. Guess what? Deals off." Kylie yelled, mostly out of fear of getting hurt again and anger at herself than anger at him. She then ran out of the courtyard and picked up her phone, calling her father to pick her up. -
(Take out the He in the first sentence... I don't know why that's there.)
-
Jackson just stood there. Unable to process what just happened. Was I using her? He questioned himself. Why have I been acting like a fool ever since I kissed her? Jeez.
He looked like a puppy that was just thrown out on the road and rub over by a car. He felt weak in his knees. The boy didn't even know what to do anymore. He just turned around on his heels and started to walk home. Under the rain. -
Kylie shivered in the rain, ignoring her friends and their concern as she waited for her father. When he arrived, she climbed into the car and put on her seat belt. "Wonderful weather we're having!" He joked. "Not now." Kylie groaned as he pulled out of the driveway.
"Mind telling me what happened?" He asked. "I almost fell for Jackson and his stupid charming tricks..." Kylie muttered. "Luckily, I remembered the bet and got my gaurd back." She added. "Bet?" Her father asked. Kylie then explained everything that happened from Jared cheating on her to Jackson dancing with her to cheer her up.
Her father smiled and chuckled, causing her to glare at him. "Never liked that Jared guy." He added. "Yeah. I know. Ok. I spilled. Now it's your turn. Spill." Kylie told him. "Spill what?" Her father asked. "Why the hell do you like Jackson so much? He is just as much of an a--hole as Jared. And Jared used the same charm and manner with you as Jackson. So, what gives?" Kylie asked. Her father merely laughed, a large smile on his face. -
As soon as Jackson walked inside, all the lights turned on automatically. He slammed the huge door shut and threw his blazer on the floor.
You're an a--hole!
He made his way to the beer parlour and grabbed a whiskey bottle.
Stop it! Stop pretending you care about me. People like you don't care about anyone.
He drank the whiskey and started laughing. But no sound was made. His shoulders were just going up and down, and his head bent 90 degrees like he was looking at the floor but his eyes were close and he had a stupid grin on his face. -
"What's so funny!?! And why are you so happy anyways?" Kylie demanded. "I'm sorry. You're just like me when you're afraid, and I seem to be finding that hysterical." Her father replied. "Actually, the thing I liked about Jackson was his lack of charm. That's what told me he was honest and I could trust him." Her father chuckled.
Kylie stared at her father in confusion. "I asked him questions about him and he seemed really passionate about wanting to go into music. Being passionate about the future is a good quality. Then I asked him how he felt about you. When I asked Jared about this, he clearly practiced his answer. He was talking about how he would take care of you, how he would do anything for you, and all that corny stuff." He began.
"However Jackson was completely thrown off. He began stuttering, he was awkrawd, he was flustered. Why, if your mom had seen it, she would have thought it adorable." He explained. "I knew right away that he did care very much about you, just wasn't familiar with experiencing actual care." He concluded. Kylie took a moment to process this information. When she finallly understood, the memory of the dance repeated itself in a new light, causing a panicked feeling as tears returned to her cheeks. "I'm a b----!" She cried, covering her mouth. "Well... Yes. However, considering the circumstances, it's understandable." Her father replied. -
Soon Jackson's laughing turned into crying, "I'm so useless..." He muttered. He was shivering like crazy. Then he grabbed two bottles more and went upstairs to his bedroom. Nearly stumbling and falling down the stairs, but he didn't.
-
Kylie felt a pain of guilt sear in her heart as she climbed up the stairs. She entered her room and pulled out her phone, fidgeting with it. What on earth was she going to say?
Kylie: Hey... Jackson? I'm... I'm sorry for yelling at you... I didn't mean what I said. I just got scared.... And I don't handle fear well...
Kylie: I don't know what to say to make up for it... I'm not very good with apologies... Could we try this again? -
Jackson sat on the floor next to his bed, he finished drinking the two bottles and he has been staring at the text Kylie sent him for 20 minutes, not doing anything at all.
He quickly dialed her number and called her. -
Kylie heard her phone ring and nervously clicked accept, holding the phone to her ear. "H-Hello?" She stuttered nervously.
-
Jackson doesn't say anything.
