Amber listened to the clocks rhythmic ticking chime by, her ears bleeding at the sound. Her brows furrowed as she crumbled the corners of her history notes. Her binder full of scribbles of boredom, all marked with a blue inked pen, her tapping against the paper, annoying the other students. The others seemed impatient as she were too, Amber wanted to visit her uncle, the one person she could ever truly be around without having to be annoyed about too much.
Students within her class didn't care for her or bothered to question her presence. A simple background character within the movie, the students playing the starring role. Despite the held in chatters of gossip, they slipped their paper notes, the only other way of communication besides cellphone or calculators when you punch in the right combination. With a strong love and desire for the artistic world, Amber chose the high school she was attending. Hoping for a life of full adventures, everything she had wished for never came true.
The minutes ticked by, her teacher still pointing and mentioning what they should remember for upcoming tests but, no one cared enough to continue listening to the woman's lecture. ''Alright, we have a test next Th-'' With that, her words were cut short by the ringing of the bell. Students began packing their bags, the sense of freedom and relief filled the air, evaporating the impatience the students once had. ''Crawford,'' Called a sweet voice. The blond woman, her hair resting just at her shoulders, with blue eyes directing themselves to Amber's form. She adjusted her brown bookbag, that hung limply on her shoulder. ''Yes, Mrs. Green?'' Amber asked, without any sense of attitude to ruin the teacher's mood.
''Well, next Thursday we have a test,'' She began, tucking behind a lock of blond hair. ''As it seems you're the only one who cares,'' Swallowing down a lump in her throat Amber nodded. ''Now you go and have a good weekend,'' Amber waved at the woman, with her binder in her arms entering the hallways. After just a few minutes of school ending, the other teenagers had scurried off elsewhere doing whatever they pleased.
Amber took a short route to her uncle's home, as it was a weekend and it was possible for her to probably stay the night while her parents dealt with their weekend plans. Sighing, Amber knocked on the door, once and then twice to make her arrival known. ''Uncle!'' She yelled, standing on her toes to look through the peephole. ''It's me, your favorite niece!'' She chuckled, with a pleasant smile gracing her lips.
Best I can do before I have to start doing some homework.) -
Sam ran around his lab, trying to slow down the machine. Once the loud machine was over, his daughter Alex came downstairs. Daddy, Amber is here. Alex reported, walking into the lab. What does this do? She asked, pushing a button. Sam groaned as the machine turned back on. He turned it off again before heading upstairs.
Sam locked the lab door so Alex wouldnt get into things and sent her to play with her sister Heather. Sam arrived at the door and saw Amber there. Ah! Hello Amber. What brings you to my humble home? Sam asked, bringing his niece in. I hope its not to steal cookies again. Cause I still owe dept to Alex for last time. He teased as they sat in the living room. -
''Hi Uncle Sam,'' Amber said, her lips curving into a greater smile. Walking towards the living room, Amber took her place on the couch, her arms stretched out wide. ''I'm just here to be here,'' The teenager said, grabbing a cushion holding it close to her chest. ''I'll probably still eat a cookie or two,'' Amber said, her lips parting for a breathless laugh. ''What have you been up to, Uncle Sam?'' She questioned, kicking her feet up a bit on the couch.
-
Well, Im trying to work on a generator so I can give the fellas at Hydro a kick in the pants. Uncle Walter told her. But the thing keeps going wild. So I cant leave it running for too long. He added. Uncle Sam was a jolly man with curly brown hair and brown eyes. He wore sweat pants and a grey t-shirt. He was a single father because his wife was in another country at the moment.
Alex and Heather then entered. Alex was a five year old with blonde pigtails and brown eyes. She had lots of freckles and she wore a white blouse and a blue skirt. Heather was a ten year old with long brown hair and brown eyes. She wore a brown dress. Amber!!! Alex cheered, running over and hugging her cousin. Dad. The time machines broken again. Danny broke it. Heather told her father. Sam stood up quickly. Time machine? We dont have a time machine. He lied, giving Heather the: Thats a secret look. -
''Hi, Alex,'' Amber hummed, hugging the little girl. She twirled around her blond locks with a smile. Amber listened onto Heather and then her uncle. ''Time machine?'' Her eyebrows quirked in surprise. She sat up straight, a smile gracing her lips. Her mind began running wild, with the lack of technology of the new age she spent most of her time reading books and studying or using her vintage camera. ''Like it can seriously go back in time?'' Amber questioned, and excitement filling her veins. ''Does it work? Can I use it? Please, please, please!'' Amber begged, grabbing Uncle Sam's arm.
-
Uh... There isnt one. Heather lied. I meant... The Lime Machine is broken again. She corrected herself. Okay. You girls play. Ill go fix it. Uncle Sam sighed, placing Amber on the couch. Heather sat beside Amber and played Spongebob on the tv.
-
Amber looked over at her uncle, her eyes pleading to come along. ''Uncle Sam,'' She said, pouting her lip to add effect. ''Can I please, please come with you?'' Amber questioned, her brows quirked in hope. ''I promise I won't touch anything, I just want to look,'' She was far more convinced this machine existed despite the words coming from a young child. ''I'll even take cute pictures of Alex and Heather so you can post them all over your walls,'' She exclaimed, smiling. ''If I do say so myself it sounds like a pretty good deal,'' Amber commented, her lips parted wide into a smile, revealing her teeth.
-
No. Uncle Sam replied, walking down to the basement where the time machine was. Danny, a fourteen year old boy with curly brown hair, blue eyes, and freckles came up the stairs. You tattled on me didnt you? He growled at Heather. You shouldnt have broken the.... The Lime machine! Heather defended. Danny blinked in confusion then saw Amber. Oh... Hi Amber. He greeted.
-
Amber glanced over at her cousin, a smile on her lips. ''Hello, Danny!'' Amber exclaimed, swinging her feet. ''So I heard of this so called.. ''Lime Machine'' after Uncle Sam is finished fixing perhaps.. Just maybe we could go take a look at it?'' Amber said shrugging slightly. ''And if no one says anything to Uncle Sam I just might not eat all the cookies but, no promises though.'' She said, chuckling slightly.
-
Sorry. Im grounded. Maybe later. But its not exactly locked. You can just follow him. He told her. Heather frowned and kicked Danny in the leg. Ow! He yelled, walking quickly to the stairs. He stuck his toungue at her before walking upstairs.
-
Amber cupped her mouth as she shouted, ''Thank you!'', allowing it to ring throughout the house. Amber chuckled, ''you girls want to go play dolls?'' She questioned. ''If so, go get the pretty little dollies,'' Amber said with a brief laugh.
-
Okay! Alex cheered, running to get the dolls. Heather stayed, staring at Amber with suspicion.
-
''Hey, don't look at me as if I'm the culprit!'' Amber said, giggling at the girl. She ruffled Heather's hair with a smile. ''What do you think I'll be up to? The only crime I ever committed was taking adorable pictures of you and eating some cookies,'' Amber said, hands raised to prove her innocence.
