Mae looked at the time and went to the cafeteria for dinner.

Luke sighed and walked outside. He followed Mae without her knowing and wondered whether he should talk to her or not.

Mae was never shy to walk down the hallway, but today she felt shy! Her shoulders were upwards and her face was looking down. She barely knew Luke was behind her.

"Mae? I'm sorry for being too hard on you." Luke finally sighed, sitting on a bench. He watched Mae for a while, concerned. She looked a little different than usual...

Mae shivered and shyly stood in front of Luke, still looking down "Ha-hard on me? Y-you weren't hard on me, you-you were right" She said and shyed away.

"I don't know..." Luke sighed... "When I was a little boy, I was a major history buff! Back when I thought I was human. I loved studying Civil Rights history. I wanted to open a museum about it! But when I found out the truth, that I had powers, I had many nightmares ever since. Night mares of those events. But instead of blacks, me. Instead of Gays, me. Because I was different... So I became just as afraid of humans as they were of me..." Luke told her.

Mae shrugged and thought "I'm human, he's scared of me? Oh my god! I'm THE FREAK HERE!" She smiled "I love history! And I don't think humans fear you" She said looked away.

"You feared me. Since the day you met me. My mom sent me to this school to try and get rid of my fear of humans... I guess it sorta worked... Because now I'm in love with a human. But sadly that just makes me more scared of her." Luke sighed. Hoping she would ask which human.

Mae already knew she was the human but she wanted to ask to see what he would say "What human?"

"McKenna." Luke lied, smirking and laughing. "Kidding! I'm kidding!" He laughed. "You." He added after taking a deep breath.

Mae nodded and walked away.

Luke grabbed her arm and gestured for her to sit down.

"I don't want you to fear me anymore, so I'd rather stay away" She said and looked away.

Luke felt guilty as she walked away. He stared at the floor and let his mind buzz as he stared into space.
