Plot for reference:
"The Sea's Lover" is an infamous ship, run by its ruthlesscrew, and led by a harsh, young captain- C1. C1 has lived his whole life with pirates, because his father was the last captain of The Sea's Lover, and when he was killed, C1 took over, making the ship even more famous than before.
But, during a raid in the open seas, the ship is practically destroyed, except for a single lifeboat. The only crew members to make it onto the boat? C1, and the guy who swabs the decks- C2. C1 has zero confidence that they'll survive, because he doesn't think that a deck hand will be any help. When they hit land, though, he finds that C2 has much better survival skills than him, and C1 will have to depend on C2 for help or die.
Awesooome okay do you want C1 or C2? I already have a character for C2 but I'm cool with switching -
I'm okay with either, honestly.
-
I think I'm gonna stick with C2 then so I can keep my character cx
-
Okay. How old is he?
-
19 but your's can be whatever
Name: Lewis Howard Elmore
Age: 19
Height: 5' 4"
Looks: He has tousled, curly auburn hair that reaches just to his jaw. His skin is tan from working on the outside, sunny deck of the ship all day. Although he's short, he's strong, and while not overly muscular he is a bit built from lifting and carrying things often. His eyes are green, but they're a bit more brown around the edges.
Personality: Most of the crew of the ship never liked him, so he was quiet while working and never spoke to any of them. But, if someone proves to be a decent person, he'll warm up to them easily. His family had a background in a rural area, so he learned a lot of survival techniques from his father before he decided he wanted to work on a ship. -
Name: Alden Irving Santiwall
Age: 20
Looks: very dark skin, with increasing vitiligo on his arms, back, and chest/amberish eyes/almost black hair, braided and usually kept up in a bun/somewhat light build/large scar stretching diagonally from just above his left eyebrow to his right cheek/tall I guess in comparison
Other: Alden is a bit dramatic, but he's a fantastic thief and an incredible fighter. His light build allows him more grace than most of his enemies, something he's used to his advantage as long as possible. He isn't exactly sure if his crew likes him as much as they liked his father, but he knows how to throw a good enough party to stay on their good side. Because of his skill and heritage, he can be a bit cocky at times.
not it -
darn it xD
As a deck hand, Lewis' job was relatively easy. He was supposed to mop the decks up every morning, clean the cannons after that, and if there was any sort of conflict on board, he was supposed the stay the hell out of the way. He wasn't a very affective fighter, and the only job he had when they were in a conflict was to load the cannonballs into their cannons since he was pretty capable of lifting them. Otherwise, he would go below deck and make sure no one got to the captain's quarters, where all of the big treasure finds were. Usually, he didn't party with the rest of the crew, even. He would usually usually just take some beer and sit around while everyone else sang their merry little songs. He'd only recently gotten his sea legs, after all. This was his first ship, and it had only been about seven months.
Of course, while he had heard this was the best ship on the sea, he knew that one day a time would come when the crew would end up losing out to someone. The day had started off normal, but they were en-route for a secluded island that was rumored to be home to a treasure trove of diamonds and rubies. They bumped into another ship along the way, and it seemed like no big deal, so Lewis just took his post below deck with a dagger, waiting for the crew to come down victorius. He only got a clue that something was wrong when he noticed water leaking up from the floorboards. He swallowed, and opened the door to shout up the stairs, "Hey! What's going on? We've got a leak!" -
(I literally just chose a random name from a ship name generator, if you can think of a better one for the few pages during which the ship will still be at sea level, please tell me)
As captain of the Rebel's Damnation, Alden's job was close to impossible. Every day involved making a new, probably stupid decision, and keeping certain parts of the crew from mutiny. Ever since his father's death five years prior, the general condition of the ship had gone downhill dramatically. The only thing keeping them afloat anymore was probably the increase in decent raids. Morale rose only temporarily with every celebration, and treasure meant nothing with their poor distribution system. He knew this should have been concerning, considering that he had never actually stepped ashore for more than a few hours at a time and couldn't imagine himself living the rest of his life on land, but he tried to ignore it. Pirates had no worries, right?
Well, maybe they did today. It didn't take a master swordsman to see that his crew was drastically outnumbered. Even as they pushed the rivals back, eventually making their way onto the other ship, he knew this wasn't a battle they could easily win. He dodged and ducked through the enemies, striking with an experienced ease that few truly possessed. He preferred to fight alongside his crew in this way. Besides, it gave him a chance to encounter his long time rival Captain Tabitha Randecar and fight her directly.
He found her easily, despite the fact that it'd been years since they last encountered each other. "Alden!" she called, recognizing him through the crowd. "You've finally grown up a bit, haven't you?" She grinned, seeing his passion for the fight increasing as their swords clashed. "I see you've taken over your father's ship. No wonder your crew's in s--- condition," she said, catching him off guard and forcing him back in the direction from which he'd came.
"I'd say the same to you, but you've been rock bottom for... forever, right?" Okay, so he wasn't great at insults. Especially not in the moment. Or when he was about to fall off of the enemy's ship. He made an unexpected grab for her wrist, and her pulling away helped steady him back onto his feet. He immediately let go and dodged her weapon. She gave him a slightly sympathetic look.
"If you say so, Alden. Shame your father isn't here to see this fight, though. He'd love to know that his ship went out with a bang." Before he could question her, a loud explosion shattered the air and shook both boats. He glanced back to see the Rebel's Damnation, an impressive hole now starting to let water into its lower chambers. He dodged another one of her attacks and bounded down to where the two ships were currently connecting, shouting for his crew to retreat as he did so. Sure, they were probably going to die, but they were going to die aboard their own ship without fear of being taken prisoner. -
(It sounds good to me cx)
There was almost never need to panic when the crew was fighting on the upper decks. The ship had, obviously, never sunk, and the crew had never lost out to anyone else. So when the water started to pool at Lewis' feet, he really thought something must be wrong. He couldn't think of what to do, as he heard the feet of the crew clamoring around on the upper deck, as if they had just come back aboard from the other ship. In any case, his job was to protect the best loot, and so he grabbed the trunk that it was all kept in and lifted the leather handles on both sides. Of course it was heavy, but he was quite used to that and he easily managed his way out of the Captain's Quarters- which was already ankle deep in water- and to the steps that led up. Once he got to the top, and swung out the door, he took in the sights.
Their ship's crew was just now hurrying back on, and he watched as the other ship's crew sprinted back to their's, moving quickly to remove anything and everything that connected them to the Rebel's Damnation. At this point, Lewis knew what was going on, as he stood in the doorway looking around. They were sinking, actually sinking, and there he was just standing around with a trunk full of gold and pearls and diamonds. At this point, those wouldn't do much good. He set the truck down, pushing it up against the inner wall of the deck to keep it from sliding around too much as the ship swayed back and forth uneasily.
Without much protocol about what to do when the ship was sinking, Lewis decided the best he could do would be to stay out of the way, while the rest of the crew figured it out. He left the trunk where it was for a moment, and ran across the deck, to the side opposite of where they'd been hit. The wooden lifeboats were hanging there. At least, they used to be. Along with the disrepair of the ship went the neglect of the rope that tethered the boats to the side of the ship, and now, there was just one, barely clinging on. Now that he could confirm that it was there, he ran back for the trunk, and in no time had tossed it off the side of the ship into the lifeboat. -
He watched as the crew gradually fell into panic. This was the mutiny he'd feared. He decided that, as cowardly as it was, it was probably better to sneak off and let the ship go down than to deal with his men eventually turning on him. He ran to the edge of the ship, looking over and seeing one tiny lifeboat tethered to the ship. Just as he was about to jump off, another cannon blast sent the ship rocking violently. It tilted to one side, five or six men falling off of it as it did. The only way Alden kept himself on the other side was by clinging to the rail for dear life.
As the ship settled itself once again, he looked up and around. A lifeboat would require two people. There was no one he was particularly set on saving. His eyes settled on the deck hand, a small but muscular boy he'd recently hired out of necessity. He would have to do. "Hey!" the captain called to him, his voice rising above the chaos of the ship. He strode along the length of the boat to the man, grabbing him by the wrist and pulling him back to where they could jump easily. "Don't let anyone else on that boat," he said, before rushing off quickly to grab something. -
Just as Lewis was about to run off to his own quarters to grab a few things, he was stopped by the commanding voice of the captain. He hadn't thought it would be for him, yet when he turned his head towards the man, he was coming straight for him. His wrist was grabbed, and he was sent back to the railing next to the boat. "Yes, sir," he said, although he was a little confused. The Captain was not supposed to abandon ship, even if it had been shot twice and was sinking.
While Louis stood next to the rails, holding on for dear life in case they were shot again, one of the crew ran up, clearly about to jump over the edge into the boat. Lewis hardly managed to stop him, and when he did, the guy didn't look happy.
"What the hell makes you in charge of the boat?" The angry man asked, standing in front of Lewis as if to size him up.
Lewis stood just as sure of himself, even though he was still questioning what the captain was doing. "The Captain told me not to let anyone else on this boat."
The crewmate clearly didn't like this, as he huffed, and and then stomped off, now brandishing his sword. "Where's the Captain?" He was shouting, asking anyone who passed him. -
(I really like writing this character... c:)
Okay, he was definitely a coward. However, as he made his way downstairs, he discovered that the water was up to about his shoulder height at the floor. The water swirled around threateningly, carrying both sea and ship debris through the space. Standing on one of the dry steps, he pondered the importance of retrieving this item. Eventually, he spotted it floating amongst a cluster of items that had come from his quarters, and successfully reached out to grab it. He tucked the small telescope into his belt before running back up the stairs.
He emerged to a scene of even greater chaos than before. He slowly crept along past the fighting, trying to reach the other side of the boat. Just as he reached the side, though, a member of his crew spotted him. "There you are! What gives you the right to take the last boat?" He brought his sword up to attack, and the captain pulled his out just in time to strike back.
"Well," Alden replied, slowly backing along towards the boat as he fought, "I'm afraid I might just be a little more important than you, sir. Oh, and a little more cowardly too. How brave of you to go down with this ship!" He took a chance and successfully booted the man away, then bounded over to the actual lifeboat. Just as he reached it, however, most of the crew seemed to notice his arrival. "I would jump now and start lowering the boat, if I were you," he told the deck hand, turning to face the crowd of angry men.
"Gentlemen, it's been a wonderful five years. Really, it has. I'll miss you all, but there's only one lifeboat... so I leave you our adventures, the splendid memories we've made, and of course, all of our treasure. So long!" With that, he jumped the edge and landed successfully in the lifeboat, then pulled out his sword and cut the ropes before it could be lowered the rest of the way. -
((saame haha))
Lewis was trying to avoid the panic of his crew mates while he was waiting for the captain to return. He had no idea if they were both supposed to get on the boat, or if the captain was intent on leaving the ship by himself, but either way his only order was to keep people away from the last lifeboat. Which, at this point, wasn't too hard, because now the crew was just blood thirsty looking for the captain. By the time the man of the hour came back up from the lower deck, the ship was tilting dangerously to the left and the bow was raised up into the air about fifteen feet.
Upon being instructed to, Lewis jumped over the rail, and down into the boat. Amidst the screaming and chaos above him, he started on the pully of rope that started to lower the boat. He got it to about ten feet above the water before the captain jumped in, and suddenly cut the ropes, so that they flew down the last bit and hit the water with a splash. Lewis swallowed, and looked at the man, and then back up at the crew that was shouting over the railing and jeering at them. -
(Have you seen that thing about the small, built person in the pairing lifting the tall, skinny person bridal style? Because this is them)
Alden tensed when the boat hit the water, then stared up at his crew for a moment. Part of him did feel a little bad about abandoning all of these men, but then again... he knew they would do the same to him in a heartbeat. He saluted them sarcastically, then watched as the waves and the sinking of the ship naturally did their part to separate the two vessels. Eventually, he turned and looked at the other person in the lifeboat. "Uh, what's your name again?" He glanced back, realizing that someone on the ship had started a fire now. Great. Just wonderful.
He slowly sat down after a few minutes, not entirely sure if he was able to come to terms with the fact that the boat was now gone. In the dying light of the evening, he took in their situation. He was on a very tiny boat, though relatively close to an island, with a man who was probably his worst choice of the crew to save. Fantastic. -
(omg yes it is I love that)
Since the boat hit the water, Louis had been sitting down, with his back against the treasure trunk. When the captain asked what his name was, he wasn't even offended. One, he'd only been on the ship for a few months, so hardly anyone knew his name. Two, he wasn't exactly one of the most important people around, unless keeping seaweed and dead fish off of the decks was a very difficult job, so no one cared to know his name. And three, the few people who did know his name on the ship screwed with him by calling him the shortened version of his middle name, Howie. If the captain didn't know about that, this was his chance to rid himself of that forever.
"It's Lewis," he said, then added, "Sir." He looked towards the ship, to see that the waves had already carried them away from it a good distance. "You... didn't happen to bring any food, did you?" He asked, since he knew that the only nearby land mass would be an uninhabited island, void of any human life or civilized places to eat.
