He thought about it for a moment, then let out a frustrated groan. "Dammit! No, I didn't." It was official. They were going to die. Well, they were probably going to die anyways, given the past hour or so. They couldn't let that fact get them down, though. They were getting to that island for sure. "We should probably start rowing, then. That island was pretty close, we should be able to get there before dawn."
It took him a moment, but the ex-captain eventually realized that they didn't have any sort of light other than that from the stars. At least the moon was nearly full. He sighed, reaching for the oars on his end of the boat, and started rowing. -
While the idea of them not having any food with them was a little disheartening, Lewis knew that most islands had wild pigs and rodents, so it might not be so hard. And if the island held a treasure, some other pirate would eventually come along and maybe help them out. At the mention of the oars, he nodded, and turned himself around to start rowing after getting his own.
Even though it was getting darker, the moon and the stars and the still-setting sun reflected nicely against the seawater and offered them ample lighting for their task. "What about a compass, do we have one of those? That would help." -
"Uh, yes. I do, actually." So his brief adventure to his quarters hadn't been completely in vain. He reached for the telescope and pulled it out victoriously, then slowly unscrewed the larger end of it. He flipped the lens over, holding it up to see it better in the light. Inside was an ornate compass, its transculent background mostly see-through when he lifted it up against the moonlight. He then looked into the rest of the fake telescope, seeing that his collection of maps was still intact. The carrying device was the most useful (and sentimental, for that matter) item his father had left him. Alden was glad it could help out now. He aligned the compass properly, determining that they were headed in the right direction. "We're going the right way, no worries."

(haha I just finished eating dinner and you posted right before I refreshed the page xD)
Lewis gladly nodded, happy to hear that they at least had a navigational tool in this expedition. Once it was confirmed that they were going in the right direction, it got quiet, since he couldn't think of anything else to ask. They were now seperated enough from the wreckage of the ship that the only sign of it was a faraway glow of flames, which was faintly being drowned out by what he could presume was not only the distance, but the fire being put out by the sinking ship. So, now, the only sound was of the two men rowing, and the occasional clang of the pieces of gold shifting in the trunk that Lewis had lugged along with them. -
(Earlier I refreshed and you'd posted 19 seconds before! Maybe we can sense each other posting. That'd be the most useless superpower ever tbh)
They rowed in mostly silence for ten or twenty minutes, before Alden noticed the jingling of metal in the boat. "Did you sneak some treasure on board?" he asked curiously. He had to admit, he was getting pretty tired pretty quickly. The ex-captain, while active and plenty nimble, was not meant for this sort of thing. It only made him want to work harder though, so he could quickly reach land and take a break. -
(Well at least it's a superpower cx)
Lewis scoffed, and nudged the trunk with his foot. "Some? Actually, I got most of it. I don't know why, honestly, because we won't have much use for it. But I figured since I was meant to protect it I might as well protect it to the end. If it sunk with the ship no one would ever find it again." He sighed, shrugging, thinking how it probably would have been better to have brought some rolls or something. Though, he wasn't very tired or hungry yet. He was used to working long days without a break, and his endurance was built up enough that he could probably go quite a bit longer without needing to let up for a bit. And by then, he hoped they would have arrived at the island. Thinking of which, he asked, "How much further do you think it is?" -
(Yeah, but I'd rather be able to like... levitate all foodstuffs starting with a consonant. Also, we can time skip if needed.)
"If we run into some other pirates, it would make a nice bribe. So thank you for that." Then again, it would have been better if the boy had grabbed some food for them, or perhaps water that they could actually drink. He hummed a bit as he tried to think of an answer to the second question. The island had been visible with a naked eye from where the ship was, so it couldn't be too far away. He told Lewis to stop rowing, and pulled out the compass to check their direction again. They were still on course. "I have no idea, actually." -
(True true. There's a tumblr post about having the power of changing probability, like, you could say 'the chance of me being able to fly is now 100 percent' and then boom you can fly. And yeah, lets do that.)
"Oh.. yeah, that's useful," he said, feeling pretty good now to be useful. Even if that kind of scenario was a little unlikely. Then, he stopped rowing, as he'd been told to, and waited for the response from Alden. When he heard that their distance from the island was unsure, he sighed, and then got back to rowing. He didn't want to be doing this all night, so he tried to keep up a good pace. About an hour later, which was filled with awkward silence and an occasional huff of effort, the island was clearly in sight now and they were only a couple hundred yards from the shore.
