Gotta go to work! See yah later~)
Alan just finally sat down on a park bench when he started routing through his bag to see if he had his sketch book on him as he pulled it out with a few carcoal pencils. He unfolded it and found a blank page before he tried to find something to sketch, which was hard since now the park seemed almost empty and only a few people were still around, until he saw her. The blondish red hair was what caught his eye as she leaned against a tree when he started sketching, not feeling like he was being creepy or anything, but being an artist anyone can be your muse. He hummed lightly as he kept going, even documenting her actions along the way. -
Then, it exploded. It wasn't a large explosion. In fact, it was rather small. It was only enough to start a small fire, which was made even smaller by the dampness of the grass. Still, it caused Lux to panic. She really wasn't that familiar with fires. She reached out with her foot and stamped on the device, thankful for the skin tight suit she was wearing and for the fact that it was fireproof.
With the fire successfully out, she reached back down to her wrist and touched a button on the much less flammable band attached to the sleeve. Thin tendrils of electricity shot out and around her fingers, lacing themselves together to produce a temporary glove. She picked up the smoldering device and inspected it cautiously. Was it safe to leave here? Or... wherever here was? -
He stopped sketching for a moment, he finally noticed her outfit. It was odd for the winter weather they were having, but then again he had a roommate that decided the cold couldn't affect him while being drunk and ran outside naked. He closed his sketch book and stood up, being a nice citizen that he was, to go ask her if there was something she needed or directions. He walked slowly and calmly over to her, trying not to seem like he was being a creep.
He got close enough for her to hear him say something before he opened his mouth. "Excuse me are you lost or something?" he said calmly. "Because you seem to look like it." -
"What?" she asked, looking up. His voice was considerably different, with an accent she didn't really recognize. Then again, her voice was probably strange to him as well. "I'm a little lost. I think. Where am I, exactly?"
She paused to think about it for a moment. Technically, anywhere on solid ground was lost an unfamiliar territory to her. It didn't help that she'd gone back-- it had to be back, or else someone would've been waiting for her-- in time. What year was it? She couldn't just ask what year it was, that'd be weird, wouldn't it? If only they'd prepped her on what to do if the device broke. Then again, no one expected it to break like that. -
He looked around, trying to recognize what do park they were at, but he didn't see really anything that could tell him where. "Um...your in a park in the city of Chicago and its..." he dug around in his pockets and pulled out his phone and turned it on. "It's 11:45 in the afternoon." he put it back in his pocket. "Is that all you needed or do you need to be somewhere?"
This girl seemed to still be worrying about something, but he barely knew her so why ask? It probably was a problem that wasn't his to worry about. Yeah, she looked kinda weird and wore something that wasn't suitable for the cold...he blinked. He needed to stop thinking. -
Okay, there was no way this would end well for her.
Her first option was to wander aimlessly until she hopefully figured something out. Even with the differences the world had created, she could tell that was a bad idea. Too much could go wrong, too quickly.
Her second option would be to wait it out until someone came for her. That was also a bad idea, probably. Who would use broken technology to go after a minor criminal? As long as history hadn't radically changed on itself while she was gone, no one would try to find her.
Her third option was, well... standing right in front of her. Lux could tell this boy everything and he'd probably think she was crazy, but who would believe him? He didn't look very important, so his words probably weren't either. She then took to sizing him up physically, trying to decide if she could take him if things became unpredictable. Okay, maybe not, but she was probably faster than him. Either way, he was her best option at the moment. She sighed, knowing there was no way back after this. "What's a park?" -
He raised an eyebrow at her as a slight chuckle escaped from his throat until he noticed that she was truly being serious about the question. "Um...a park is a green place where people can come together for recreational purposes such as walking a dog or just to enjoy the outdoors." he was slightly worried about this girl at the moment, did she escape from somewhere? The news hadn't reported anything like that so it was not a option to think like that. "Are you sure you're okay?"
-
"Oh. Something terranean," she murmured under her breath, glancing around what he'd called a park. It was nice enough, she'd have to explore it later on if she had time. Lux looked back to the man standing in front of her, trying to make a decision on whether or not she should ask him any more questions. Asking him the year outright would make her sound insane. But she couldn't exactly research anything, not when the information she needed was in the future...
"What's the current date?" she asked, trying to hide the device behind her back. The tiny clock on it was stuck on the moment she'd left, and she didn't want him seeing it. -
His eyebrow rose a bit more, but he pulled out his phone again, bringing up the date. "It's the 23 of November and it's the year 2016." he glanced at her. "Is that all you need? Like do you need help getting somewhere or do you need somewhere to stay...?" he punished himself a bit, for being too nice to a girl he barely even knew and offering her a place to stay in his flat, but something was wrong with the girl.
-
She stared at him in disbelief. Had she really traveled almost 300 years back in time? She had no memory of this time period from her history classes, she had no idea how to survive here... they never taught anything about culture! She frowned, thinking about his question. Was it normal to offer others a place to stay the night? For her, it definitely was. Strangers showing up where she lived, which was a few hundred miles off of the coast, was always weird. However, isolating them outside was a death sentence. She had to assume the same here. After all, she knew very little about the world in which she'd suddenly been dropped. Trying to figure things out in her own would be a death sentence, in a sense. "Sure, if it's not a problem. I have no idea where I am or what I'm doing," she confessed.
-
He noticed her look of disbelief and felt slightly confused. Was this person...locked in a cellar or something for a couple of years before being let out? He shook his head a bit. No that was stupid, why dump them in a park anyways. He was partially glad that she took his offer. "My flat isn't far away, but it's gonna be a long walk and well..." he rubbed the back of his neck. "You can stay as long as you need to."
-
"Really? Thank you. I just need a day to figure things out." She smiled up at him, trying to hide the fact that her balance wasn't great above water. Lux knew she could easily walk it off, she always did. Something about the way he was dressed told her that she probably should've felt colder than she did, but really, she felt fine. She walked alongside the man, eventually realizing that she was oblivious to a key detail of who he was. "What's your name?" she asked, making sure the time travel device was hidden well enough behind her back.
-
He nodded as he slugged his bag over one shoulder and started walking, knowing that she would probably follow. He looked at her, causing a cold chill to travel up his back, god just looking at her made him feel cold. He smiled a bit, feeling kinda glad he was doing a good deed, well besides paying for someone's bus ticket earlier, but this was different. "My name is Alan. What about you?" he stopped at a cross walk and watched some of the cars go past as he glanced down at her waiting for her answer.
-
"Lux," she replied, keeping up easily. Sure, part of the fact that she was moving so quickly was due to her inability to walk fully on land. She quickly figured it out, though, and watched everything curiously as they walked along. She was familiar with bicycles and most of the dogs she saw every now and then, but there were definitely some concepts that were lost on her. For example, she had no clue why there were so many motorized vehicles. Did people just use those... casually?
-
He smiled warmly. "That's...huh well you're the first girl I've met that has a name like that here." the sign changed to where they could walk again, making him start to go across. His flat was in an old apartment building that was just across from the place they were standing. "So...what brings you here to the Windy City Lux?" he was slightly curious of why she was here in the first place, many people avoided the cold winters in Illinois and especially in Chicago.
