Collin snapped out of his anxiety-induced daze when he noticed a multitude of clothes spilling onto the floor. He tilted his head, using his eyes only to watch the girl as she hurriedly scooped up the laundry. He almost said hello as soon as he saw her, only because she seemed as young as he was, but he refrained for the time being. He felt bad for, and would have leaned forward and helped her pick up the pieces of fabric, but he chose not to. He didn't think he'd be able to help much, especially with his knee in such bad shape. Instead, he silently watched and hoped that he didn't seem peculiar or even slightly creepy.

"Are you... you're a patient?" she asked, grabbing the last shirt and staring up at him. Her expression was an odd mix of confusion and disbelief. Before he could answer, a nurse called to her from the staircase.
"Aspen! Nora said breakfast's almost ready, can you help me get people to the dining room after you're done with that laundry?" he called. She replied with a yes, then gave the boy an apologetic smile as she headed for the basement stairs.
Once she was downstairs, it didn't take her long to load the laundry in one of the three washing machines and rush back upstairs. While she wasn't a trained nurse, she had just as much experience as a lot of the other caretakers. Growing up here had its perks, one being that she already had the experience of a nursing student. -
He had opened his mouth to answer, but closed it as he watched her go. He did not think much on the small meeting, and instead smiled very gently when he saw his nurse returning. She stood in front him to begin asking him questions about was he was capable of remembering and the level of pain he was in. She pulled a nearby chair and sat directly in front of the 17 year-old. He pulled his head up to stare at her. His eyes were glazed over only a little bit due to the amount of sleep he had received in the hospital. He was very enthusiastic about the questions, as they involved putting himself back into the accident. He was, however, able to reiterate much of what had occurred, and though it shook him up, he pushed through it.
As he talked, he watched as a bunch of the others scrambled. It was probably some type of mealtime. -
(Nora is 90% Donna from Mamma Mia tbh)
She walked down the third floor hallway, helping anyone who wasn't slowly making their way downstairs. A woman, Miss Eloise, called for her help. As the two slowly walked towards the elevator, the older told her caretaker about the book she'd just finished. She recognized the title, but knew it was always being passed around from person to person, making it impossible, even if she did want to read it, for her to get her own hands on it. As she helped the woman to her usual seat, she noticed that there were no empty chairs, meaning that everyone was downstairs. Aspen usually didn't enjoy eating with the patients, so she wandered off to the kitchen to help get dishes on the table then to serve herself. -
tbh ive never seen mamma mia
cries
The nurse, once she had concluded her Q and A session, thanked Collin. She then questioned if he wanted anything to eat, and he only responded by asking for a cup of Chamomile Tea. She nodded and gathered her belongings. "Someone should be here to direct you to your room sometime soon. You wait here and I'll see what I can do about the Chamomile Tea." She waved to the young actor, scurrying and leaving him to himself. He sighed as he was left alone again, and continued to twiddle his thumbs as he had done previously. He felt fatigued, and had the strongest desire to sleep. He leaned against his hand after propping his arm on the arm rest of the wheelchair. An upset look spread across his facial features after he focused in on the pain in his knee. -
She was just about to put some pancakes on her own plate and head upstairs when a nurse walked into the kitchen. She searched the space for the boxes of tea, clearly unfamiliar with the space. Aspen opened a cabinet and turned to the nurse, a sympathetic smile on her face. "What kind?"
"Chamomile. Think you could do me a favor and take it out to someone for me? He's in the main hall, new resident." The nurse filled a cup with hot water.
"Sure," the girl replied, taking the mug and dropping the tea bag into it. She nodded her acknowledgement of the nurse's thanks and left to deliver the tea. -
Collin had, by then, begun to drift off on the hand. His eyelids were shut and his non-injured leg was tapping slowly. The want for tea should have been enough to keep him up and running even if just for ten minutes. But he was tired and he could not keep his head up any longer. As he drifted, he finally pieced together a timeline in his head of the events that had taken place in the moment in which he was shot. This lead the boy to think about who would have had the motive to perform such a dastardly crime. He had never made any enemies, and so he was dumbfounded.
-
She brought the tea out, and sat in the chair that had been left across from the boy. So he was a patient. In a way, he looked familiar. And now that she wasn't spilling an old woman's laundry all over the ground, she felt a little less awkward talking to him. She reached over and touched his hand, trying to wake him up. "Hey. You wanted tea, right?"
-
Collin jumped awake, letting out a very small noise. "Mm, tea...Yeah. I wanted tea." He nodded quickly. The fresh smell of chamomile was comforting, and did much to placate any anxious feeling that was peeling off of him. With this, he recognized the female from earlier in his arrival. She had been the one he had watched take up her spilled laundry. "You dropped laundry earlier. Sorry I didn't help. I would have, but I wasn't sure how."
-
She handed over the tea, still trying to figure out why she recognized him. "Don't worry about it, it wasn't your job. I can take care of my own mistakes." She would've offered to take him back to eat breakfast, but he seemed too anxious to do so. Besides, she knew how awkward it was to sit with the residents while they ate. "You... you actually look really familiar. Do I know you?"
-
He first took a tiny sip of the Chamomile as to make sure that he wasn't going to burn his tongue. He swallowed it with a satisfied breath, placing the cup on his thigh and holding up with a hand. The question that was given was an easy one to reply to, and he answered, "I'm...well, I was, well, I don't know. Freezing Point. That's probably where you know me from. It's the on-the-run show on MTV."
-
Aspen frowned. Now she knew why she recognized him. Friends had pictures of him as their phone backgrounds or posters in their room. The few times she'd been to public schools, she'd seen pictures of him on lockers. She'd seen ads, trying to get her to watch the show, advertising him as the pinnacle of beauty. The version of him that she'd seen before couldn't be the same boy. That one seemed cocky, perhaps even a little rude. This one just seemed to be nervous and uncertain. "Sorry, that doesn't help much. I mean, I recognize you but I don't follow the show. What's your name?"
-
Collin could understand why she didn't follow the show. Not everybody was interested in it, and some chose not to follow the media like some crazed teenagers or adults. "Collin Wents," he told her calmly, "And what's yours?" he asked, hoping to grab her name, as well. He sipped more on the Chamomile Tea, as it was now the perfect temperature. It went down easily, and he could feel himself waking up a little more because of it. He put the cup back down where it had been.
-
"Aspen Carmichael," she replied. Her fingers tapped her knee out of habit, trying to think of what to say next. Breakfast would continue for the next hour or so, which meant they'd have a long time to themselves. She may as well make him feel more comfortable here. "Have you seen the rest of the place? I can show you around, if you want."
-
"If you don't mind pushing me around, I guess," he replied, using one hand to drink his tea and the other to grip an arm rest. He honestly only wanted to sleep and have a little bit of pain medication, but he wasn't ready to make it look like he was another a--hole of a celebrity. So he agreed to the tour of where he would be staying for some time.
