While the other went off to get whatever he needed from his car, Jared went back to his own to start it up. Although, technically, it wasn't his. It was an El Camino, shiny and clean, red with chrome detail. Which he had picked up at a hotel that was near a car show two months before, and someone had oh so kindly left their keys in their car. Really, he liked the car, and it wasn't just because it was pretty.
It was from his childhood, and that was something he missed. Maybe it wasn't this car that his family had, but he remembered when it came out, and they drove around the streets brand new. But now, they were 'oldies', and you could only find them at car shows. -
He stepped toward the vehicle, waiting outside of it until he was told to do so. He gently squeezed the stuffed toy inside of his pocket, tapping his folt against the cement. Examining the car was one of the first things that he did. He noticed that it was older and was impressed at the exterior. Having driven miles and miles in different rental cars in the various states that he had visited, he picked up a reasonable knowledge of cars. The El Camino was a pretty cool sight to see.
Any doubts that he had had about the stranger disappeared. He was now content with the situation and was only watching and waiting. -
Jared sat for a minute, fiddling with the gears, deciding to go ahead and get it set and ready into reverse. He looked up, and saw the man outside his car, realizing that he didn't really indicate he was allowed in. Hurriedly, he leaned over, and opened the door for him.
"Here, sorry, you can come on in," Jared apologized, smiling awkwardly. "My name is Jared by the way, nice to meet you." -
"I'm Garrett, nice to meet you too," he said politely, stepping into and taking a seat on the passenger side. He closed the door carefully as to not mess anything up and pulled his seatbelt on. Now that he had a better look of Jared, as his name came about, he was intrigued by his features. He said nothing, however, and only leaned back in the seat. He noticed that the interior of the car was just as well cared for as the exterior. "You take good care of your car," he complimented.
