In Night Shade, California secrets hide in every corner. C1's family consists of psychs except C1 isn't (Until later), C1 and C2's parents work together, C1 mother can read minds of the dead for a short period of time after they die and C2's father works for the police in Night Shade. C1 and C2 get curious on one of the jobs and go sneak into the morgue, but what they find isn't pretty the dead person was killed by a vampire. Now too curious for their own goods they get sucked into the case.
(C1 has had a long term crush on C2, but never even thought of the possibility they could like them back.. In the book it's this whole thing about how she's really unpopular and he's a football player)

Lizzy walked into her house to her mom picking up her coat, "Hey mom, are you the only one home?" She asked.
"No, Poppy's up stairs but Callie's still out." Her mom looked around for a bit more, "Um have you seen my purse?"
"Up stairs, on your bed." Lizzy said walking into the kitchen.
"Oh right, thanks honey." Her mom said going up stairs, when she came back down she said, "Oh I'm going out for work, so I won't be home for dinner."
"K, so just me and Poppy, that's easy to make dinner for."
"Yep bye, Honey." She kissed Liz on top of the head and ran out. Lizzy sighed at sat down at the table. -
Dustin was at his house. He was alone as usual because his dad was going to work late on a case today.
