WAIT WAIT WAIT

"How can you survive like this, anyways?" he asked her. "It's pathetic."
-
"At least I know how to survive. Your kind usually last a month or two here, at most." She smirked, knowing how quickly some of these rich kids reached their demise.
-
"Then how about you teach me?" he asked, half jokingly, with a challenging twinkle in his eyes.
-
"I'd rather you starve," Demi replied before she stood and walked over to a boy who seemed to be in his early teens. Something about him told her that he was her fellow thief.
"Do you have the time?" she asked.
"No, but I know it's time the fat cats had a heart attack," he replied. Yep, this was him. -
"Harsh." he commented, before walking off. Good thing he'd never see her again. He stumbled through some narrow passageways before finding a decent looking building. He stepped inside and was immediatly hit by a smell that he could only describe as dead animals. No, not that building. A few minutes later, he found himself sitting in the middle of the floor of an abandoned building.
-
She and the boy walked along, doing a good job of not looking suspicious. He was just young enough to keep a family's attention long enough for her to sneak in and take whatever they needed. Some of it, like clothing or jewelry, she'd sell on the black market run in one of the abandoned buildings. Other things, such as food and medicine, would be distributed to everyone who she helped support. Their target was a large house owned by a married couple with two children, so they'd have plenty of food. Based on their front yard, they had plenty to spare, too. The two thieves hid outside behind one of the bushes, and waited for the sun to set.
-
He sighed and zipped his bag open, seeing what he had taken with him. The district hadn't given him much time to pack. Or grieve. He had 2 short sleeve shirt, one long sleeve shirt, a hoodie, 2 pairs of pants, some boxers, a mirror, a few bottles of water, a toothbrush, and a picture of his parents.
-
After what seemed like an hour or so, she crept around to the side of the house, and watched as the boy walked up the front steps. He knocked at the front door, while trying to look as pitiful as possible. As soon as the door opened, she pulled a knife from her pocket and slid it up into the window lock.
-
"Great...." he muttered. This wasn't going to be fun. He hated to admit it, but he needed help. He couldn't survive in this district alone.
-
It slid open with ease, and she lifted the window to pull herself in. She walked along silently, grabbing a bag or two and filling them with anything of interest. The children were asleep upstairs, it seemed, and the couple was at the door, listening to her partner's story about who knew what.
-
A few hours later, Calen opened his eyes. He'd fallen asleep, and it was now sunrise.
-
*a little past midnight
It hadn't taken either of them very long to finish the mission. She and the boy had divided the goods, three and a half bags worth, and gone their separate ways. He had his people to aid, she had hers. As she walked along one of the back, unused streets, careful to avoid police, she stumbled across an open door to one of the abandoned buildings. As she stepped inside, her eyes adjusted to the dark. She spotted a figure on the ground, and, if she was correct, recognized it. "Hey, rich boy," she said into the darkness.
