Legend says that those paintbrushes, quills and pens came from a travelling mage from another world. But when it was actually discovered, it was the beginning of something new.
Quills, pens, pencils, anything you could use to make a mark with, can be used to summon spirits and mythological creatures from another world by drawing a symbol in the air. These items were discovered around 1812, causing a outbreak of new fighting methods. These writing utensils have a bloody history, but still remain in the modern world.
Now, these items are used for a game. A game called Bellum Terra, usually called Bellum. Bellum is a game where the two opponents each summon a creature or spirit and those creatures battle until one can't battle anymore. It is now a relatively friendly game.
But at the latest tournament, spirits and creatures begin to rampage through the venue of the tournament, leaving some people wary. The next day, the postponed tournament is resumed, but things don't feel right. Three newbies at Bellum Terra have been moving up the ranks and winning against highly skilled players. These "newbies" are descendants of the mage from the other world. They have come to retrieve the summoning items.
The Bellum Government, made of some of the best players, has noticed the abnormalities about these newbies. They eventually figure out their true identities, and begin to fight back under the guise of Bellum Battles. They are determined to keep their Summoning Items. No matter what.

This is slightly based off of Bakugan, Fairy Tail, and a game called Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.
We have to have at least one character from the Bellum Government. The minimum age for the Bellum Government is 14. You can make one of the descendants as well, but you can only make one descendent, and there are 3 descendants total.
I also want to say that sometimes you have to accept a loss in a battle. You can't win every battle. The ranks will be decided by yourself at the beginning, but can and will change if you loose a battle.

Summoning Item: A blue feathered quill.

Most Common Summon: Ophiuchus the Snake Bearer (symbol: an "S" with a cross through it).
Strengths: She is an optimist and very friendly. She can come up with strategies quickly.
Weaknesses: She is hot headed and tends to let negative emotions control her.

Looks: Dark brown wavy hair that falls down a little past her shoulders, bright electric blue eyes. She is tall and slim, with tanned skin.

Looks: Lucas' origins are obvious to gauge from a single glance, since a more stereotypical Irishman there never was. Short ginger hair, more freckles than a bag of seeds and a lean build that could only be found on the Emerald Isle are Lucas' defining traits.

Most Common Summon: Beetle Goldbranch, exiled fae. (I don't think you realize how hard it was for me not to make this a leprechaun. Or Finn MacCool, the Irish hero who could learn anything by touching it with his thumb.)
Symbol: An oak tree.
Strengths: Lucas is strong of body, and determination flows in his veins. He's never lost a challenge before, not in drink, fight or word, and he doesn't plan to start now.
Weaknesses: Due to his Item of choice, Lucas takes longer to summon creatures in a hurry; depending on adequate preparation beforehand to summon. He is also slow of mind, and has trouble reading. -

You can be part of the government or a descendent. If you make two characters, you can have one of each. -

Well, I'm thinking of two things. Either, I join this role-play, and then you continue one of mine, or we make a soap/role-play that's primarily for the two of us. I say this because... Most of my role-plays are about 8 pages back.
