(Hello?)
-
(I love your profile pic :3)
Diana smiled back at Zira. She waited patiently for the last Animorph to enter. "Scil has a tendency to be late," Diana mused. She twirled her scarlet red hair with her finger. -
Thanks!)
Scil rushed in with a sheepish grin on his face. "My apologies, I was just-" "We have no desire to hear your excuses." Zira interrupted. Scil nodded and took his seat. The last throne was of snow white marble, topped with a cushion covered in snake-skin leather. -
Diana nodded politely at Scil. Then she turned to Zira. There was no official leader of the Animorphs, but Zira had to most leadership skills. "Shall we get straight down to business?" Diana asked, calmly.
-
IHLAOY NewbieWith a keen eye, Bane watched the last member of their troop enter the room. He'd never liked Scil that much. She was much too subtle for his taste, never truly saying what needed to be said and never moving with any obvious tell. He was effectively her opposite. And they were all so young, each one would need much more experience before he could be comfortable around them.
Looking over at Zira, Bane said, "Yes, tell me why we are called here this day." -
Zira knit her fingers together tightly and sighed. "Solina is in grave danger." She looked up, her face serious as stone. "The Shadow King is back."
Everyone in Solina, from the lowliest peasant to the princess herself, knew of the Shadow King. He had been the former king's brother, but the previous generation of Animorphs would not make him king once his brother died. Instead, they held the position until the princess became old enough to rule. But the Shadow King was not killed. He fled the kingdom, claiming to take the throne someday. He had turned to dark magic. The Animorphs had kept his magic out of Solina, but he had filled the surrounding forests with Shadow Beasts. Rumor has it he has been plotting ever since, creating his own army of shadow creatures. -
Diana pursed her lips. Her aunt was previously an Animorph. They went through so much trouble to get rid of the Shadow King. Now he has returned. "Did he manage to break through the barriers yet?" The barriers were fuelled with the Animorphs' own power.
-
"Not yet, thank the stars." Zira replied. "But his forces have tried. The west hate was attacked only yesturday."
-
IHLAOY Newbie"And they were fought back. The packs of the land notice their missing, and the path of shadows is lined with the blood of the wilds. The two cannot exist together without overlap." Bane replied.
The return of the shadow king though, was interesting. Bane was lucky enough to remember a time when he was but a man, wandering the halls of the castle like a frightened mouse. A man never comfortable in his own skin.
He was also unlucky enough to remember the previous animorphs who fought against him. Many good friends never returned that day, but the worth was tangible in the end. And it wasn't like he was going to forget any time soon; so long as his quarters still had that old bear skin rug.
Tapping his fingers, Banehallow stood up, "But the question we musn't avoid is one of future choices. If the King is returning, what is there to do against him? Like an alpha wolf, we must make our presence known amongst his forces. Perhaps then they will fight with less ferocity." -
"I doubt that considering the lengths the Shadow King went to over disposing of the previous Animorphs," Diana said, with a bit of bitterness in the statement. She had lost her aunt in the battle. She didn't like bringing it up. Diana was in charge of the South barrier. She was basically tied with it. If anything attacked it, it would be like attacking her.
-
Scil nodded. "Yes. The Northern border has not been attacked yet, but I agree with Diana."
Zira stood up. "I must say that I believe Bane has the right idea." -
IHLAOY Newbie"So we are in a stalemate." Bane said, crossing his arms. Frankly, he wasn't that surprised. For a group of highly magical and specially trained warriors, they really didn't find themselves agreeing on much. Ordering lunch usually numbered in the hours and resulted in no less than five punches thrown.
Leaning back though, Bane could understand why the others were against a full assault. Each one was linked to their border, and until something threatened their neck of the woods, action was not forthcoming. Much like a wolf, they were very territorial.
Bane did raise an eyebrow at the mention of the previous animorphs. It wasn't often Diana liked to bring them up so blatantly.
"And are we to sit idly while the King picks away at our borders, Diana? He is most likely testing us; gauging the reaction we would have at an attack. It can't be long until he grows bold." -
Zira nodded, eyes narrowing slightly. "I'm sure if it had been your gate attacked Diana, you'd have us all go to war."
Scil raised his eyebrows. Zira and Diana usually got along rather well, but Zira could be unusually harsh during disagreements. -
Diana turned to Zira, "Even if my gate was attacked, I would still recommend a different strategy. Full out assault is too risky. We have had no information on what has been going on beyond the gates. We could be walking into our own demise."
Diana turned to Bane, "If he is judging our reactions, is it really wise to attack? To give in to his harassment? Judging by what he has been doing, he wants us to attack. He wants us to fight back. Attacking would be like granting his wish." -
IHLAOY Newbie"But not attacking gives him valuable knowledge and drives the peasantry to worry. Today he attacks the wall, tomorrow he learns its weak points, the day after that he breaches it. No good can come from idle claws. If we do not chase them back they will run amok. We must match them blow for blow before our body becomes weakened from the fight." Bane explained.
Stopping for a moment, Bane smiled cruelly, "But I am always eager to hear what our alternatives are. Pray tell then, how are we to safeguard ourselves if not through superior force and tactics?
