Tell me if you like this:
There are four areas in the world. The sky, the sea, the ground, and the underworld. In the sky there are sprites, who can use the winds to their advantage. In the sea, there are merpeople and naiads, who can turn the tide, literally. On the ground, there are nymphs and dwarves, who can make the earth tremble. In the underworld, there are necromancers, who can make the spirits of the dead come forth.
All of the areas live together in peace. Then everything changed when the underworld attacked. The areas of the world weren't skilled in battle, so things turned bad fast. The necromancers had the upper hand, until a group of heroes defeated their leader, Hades. The heroes were all from different areas of the world, working together. There was even a necromancer helping the heroes. These heroes also died in the process of defeating Hades. Peace returned. But for not as long as people hoped. Signs are leading people to believe that Hades may rise again soon. So naturally they started training the people who may be able to fight if Hades rose. These people are the children of the Heroes of Legend.
So the characters are the children of the Heroes of Legend. They don't know that they're the Heroes' children, nor do they know that they are being trained to defeat Hades.
