Thread Topic: Purple Cherries...
-
I have noticed that you have posted in nearly every single thread in religion, and I would like to ask what you hope to gain from it? After we sift through your willing disregard for any logic or common sense, we see an even deeper level of intellectual negligence and bigotry. You aren't the first person to claim the things you're claiming and to feel so smug in your beliefs. But there's a reason most people aren't so arrogant about their claims. I'd like to think I'm part of the reason they don't do so.
So I'd like to ask you something...
I am an atheist. I have had premarital sex, my closest friends are Satanists, Buddhists, and Agnostics. And my hobbies include ghost hunting. And I regularly enjoy debating my views on religion...
So I have to ask... What do you have to say to me?
After all, being an atheists definitely has major impacts on the way people act. It's also alright for you to preach at me, but wrong if I make fun of you and tell you why you're bull shit.
I'm sure we can be best of friends... -
Also, you've been offended by the last two things you've seen me post on this forum, so let's see if we can get 3 for 3.
-
bring back.

mehukannu NewbieI don't really see what it is the big deal with all this religion vs atheism stuff. Sometimes it just feels it is just some people arguing because they have problems with their ego and can't accept other people beliefs.
Personally I am fine with everyone believing a spoiled, half-eaten sandwich to be their god as long as they don't come shoving their beliefs in your mouth all the freaking time. Especially atheist propaganda that pretty much can't be avoided no matter what entertainment site you visit (funnyjunk, 9gag, etc.).
Still, I don't see any reason why you would come post something like this in 'Religion and Spirituality' section of the forum just to grow your internet ego for some little petty feud you happen to have someone in here.
Just my thoughts as an agnostic on this issue. -
Mehuk, the religion vs atheism debate envelopes every aspect of modern culture. From social, to political viewpoints, religion influences life. My ego doesn't need this to help it.
I would have no issue with people's gods, if they didn't think it was their right to tell everyone else that they're going to suffer for it. I can understand people have some pride in what they believe (even though pride belongs to things you earn), but when the lack of modesty is so overwhelmingly obnoxious that you can't breath, it does need to be kept in check. I made this thread because cherries, systematically went through every thread on this forums front page, and either insulted others for their viewpoints, or blurted out her own self righteousness.
Given this situation, I saw two choices. I can either be offended, or I can become the offender. Instead of offending all of religion as a rebuttle and blaming her for all that's wrong with theism, I challenged her personally. To either calm her raging boner of an ego, or leave. It seems to have worked so far.
Please actually know what you're talking about before you come in here and complain about my methods. This is not the flame war you think it is. This is not a petty attempt to claim some measly sense of dominance. This is not atheistic propaganda. This is a mature response to an immature act.
Further more, know what side you claim before you claim it. Agnosticism is not a religious viewpoint. Learn your latin root words. The a infront of a word means without. As in theism and atheism. Atheism being without theism. The latin word of knowledgeable is Gnostic. So be claiming to be agnostic, you are simply stating that you lack the knowledge to make a claim. gnosic and agnostic are simply descriptive words of theism and atheism. I am an agnostic atheist. I do not believe in a theistic god, because I lack the proof to support a belief in a theistic god.
Logic -
solitary_atheist NewbieAh! Lovely and logical response. However 1 error: Agnostic CAN mean, as you said, finding no evidence for god. Agnostic can also mean finding the exsistence of god unknowable. Also, the words "agnostic" and "gnostic" comes from the greek word Gignoskein, which means "to know"
-
Gnosis is the common Greek noun for knowledge (in the nominative case yvwoic, f.). In the context of the English language gnosis generally refers to the word's meaning within the spheres of Christian mysticism, Mystery religions and Gnosticism where it signifies 'spiritual knowledge' in the sense of mystical enlightenment.
I will not banter the meaning of the word gnosis with you. I hope we can agree to interpret the meaning differently, but that in all, the idea is the same. -
solitary_atheist NewbieThat is agreed. This forum is far better off without banter.
