supernatural existance. Happy?
-
Nope. Because even hypothetically allowing students to make that choice, is giving them the choice to rob themselves of credible facts and scientific evidence. If the idea that you can opt out of the real world is instilled in children, then they will never really know how much they are missing. How much really is out there. Religios ignorance will sky rocket because people will be even worse about denying the world around them for the teachings of a single book.
Allowing the teaching of any form of supernatural creationism is no different than saying, "f--- you science, I have the bible." -
Theories of how it all came to be is not the only topic of science. Creationism and evoultion don't mesh, it's not like that with every other apsect of science.
-
Don't complain your voice is becoming stronger.
-
But is any scapegoat, really right? What makes claiming creationism over evolution any different than teaching the 10 commandments in lawschool? Or teaching spirituality over biology?
"Oh yes Doctor, I cannot pronounce this man dead because even though his heart has stopped, and his brain function has ceased, he was a holy man and his spirit will live forever." -
Ah, thank you. I'm trying a new aproach in my debates.
-
I didn't say one above another. I said keep them at an equal.
-
New approach?
You do realize that our society is straying further from religion? -
You said give the choice.
And students who have been indoctrinated into a religious belief since birth,(like most religious people are) will choose their belief system without knowing really what they're deciding against.
If any choice should be made, it should be after all the facts are already layed down. After the class has been taught. Deciding ignorance is no excuse for being ignorant. The decision should be what you should do with the cards in your hand, not whether or not you want to see them all first. -
I'm fine with that.
-
So you're agreeing that evolution should be taught in school? Since it is the only theory based in facts that it should be the one that is taught to children?
And yes, I do realize that society is straying further away from religion. Atheism or at the very least Agnosticism are becoming increasingly popular. With every step humanity takes further forward, we look around and say with a more and more confident voice that, "I see no god here. I guess we keep going." -
If it is an equal to creationism, I'm fine with it. There are little facts here and there that show that the Earth couldn't be as old as the evolution theory says.
Yes, I know. -
what facts? I'm genuinly curious.
And it just puts a smile on my face and gives me shivers every time I think about it. :) -
Such as how the salt content build-up of oceans.
Congratulations. I won't expect it to be much longer when it has completly engulfed the entire human thinking. -
The earth goes through cicles. Periods like the ice age are like a refresh button for the planet. The one that everyone thinks about isnt actually our first. We've had 3 since Pangia (dinosaur supercontinent). During ice ages the earths surface tempurature decreases. This is because of a change in the flow of ocean current. This same change also refreshes the ocean of its own build up. Not to mention techtonic shift and mineral transition which also affect the salt content. The reason that some (actually very few) Scientists give any credit to this is because we werent here to witness the last ice age. it is given credit because some people wanted to give relgion some credibility and presented it without doing their homework.
I know right! Imagine a world without religion. :D
