It's rather complex this. It's quite understandable to think if God is meant to be loving, forgiving, compassionate e.t.c. why is he punishing me, my family e.t.c.
Well, those that are faithful to God endure difficulty at times, not because He hates them but because He is testing their faith. He's wondering whether His people will stay faithful to him, depend on him and believe in him in times of great struggle.
Other times, He does punish His people. Not because he hates them, but instead He's correcting them if they've made a mistake. Often referred to as "the rode of correction." He wants to teach his people a lesson for the better.
And also He punishes them because they're doing wrong altogether. He does that and hopes that they'll see his punishment as a lesson or passageway to having a better character, attitude, or leading a better life. If they continue to ignore and lead destructive lives he'll punish them. He's merciful and waits - waits to see if they'll turn over a new leaf - but eventually He'll punish them. One described it once as brick falling from the sky, it hasn't landed yet, but it will eventually.
It's understandable to think all of those things and ask all of those questions. And that's just a synopsis, but I think it covers a few important points. -
Leah, I've always had an unexplainable hatred towards 'god' and I never knew why, I tried not to hate him but it wasn't working for me :P
I know and get what you're saying Leah, but my mom's a good person, she believes in god too, she's being punished for doing nothing wrong and he kills those that are innocent, out of 7 kids, three remain and i happen to be one of the lucky. I don't care how you justify your bulls---, it'll all sound like bulls--- to me, take that as a f--- you cause that's what it's meant to be. f--- god. -
...I don't know, Leah. Seems like a puppeteer, bored as hell and reaking havoc.
Testing our faith? What kind of a sick, moronic son of a gun would 'test our faith'? When I hear that, I picture some poor woman in a ghetto who just got her son blown to bits, and is praying to 'God'. And what does He say?
*Hmmm.......Part One completed. But I'm not sure....Time for Part Two of the test!*
That doesn't sound right. At least, in the case of Satan, you know he's 'bad'. It's been made clear that he's the 'bad' guy, the trickster.
But 'God'? ...He seems worse. You don't know what freaking game he's trying to pull. He's not straight forward, not someone black and white, like he claims to be.
...I dunno. God just doesn't seem like a guardian. -
lol someone other than me sees what I see about god...
the amusing thing is, the book that was supposedly written by Satan is praising god, not belittling him -.-' shows how bad satan really is. -
Hehe...Exactly why 'bad' is in quotation marks ;P
-
Lol. I just realized, we all agreed that thread 666 on religion should be about satanism. And in the end it was made by a satanist, telling everyone else to f--- off. xD
-
LMAO I just realized that.

There is a reason for your mother's suffering. Maybe it is punishment, correction or maybe a gift in disguise. All things work together for good - for God's faithful people. A reason is never that obvious, it unravels later on.
As for always having an "unexplainable hatred towards 'god'", it's quite rare in my experiences. Many people grow to resent God through misunderstanding, lack of faith e.t.c. But your hatred towards Him is unexplained. There's a passage in the Bible that I, unfortunately, cannot recall right now. But it basically means some people are born good, some people are born evil. We don't become it. Of course, that evil comes in greater doses than others.
As for testing our faith, I admit I was quite skeptical too. I think it's only when we truly endure times of difficulty is when we sometimes realise how vulnerable our faith is. It's not meant to be some kind of sick process of pain, but instead a period to reflect and most of all strength our faith.
It's all quite hard to get your heads around it, I assume. This moderate understanding I have didn't come to me overnight. We often learn more efficiently from experience than any other way, I think anyway.
P.S. And thank you Ting for cursing at me. That was so very necessary and justifiable. And as for cursing God? Well, He'll deal with that one. -
There's more evidence to me that your god is a disgusting man than the savior he really is.
It's unexplained, but now I know why I hate him, I just do, I don't know any word that could describe how much I hate his guts.
and PS, people re more likely to become evil, there are some who have done evil deeds that become good, and some good that become evil, it really depends on what happens in life, certain things can set off your psyche.
I curse when I'm angry :P deal with it. I have anger towards god. -
There are numerous, discussable points and examples I could make. But a religious/spiritual discussion can prolong quite significantly with, of course, no resounding conclusion.
Honestly, I do actually pity you quite a bit, Ting. Not because you don't have God in your life - and I know you don't want or appreciate my pity - but I somehow still do. It's rather like you, an explained reason for feeling a particular way. I'm unsure of why, but I inexplicably pity you.
All the best. -
Leah, I have a question for you.
Do you feel that we reject God? Do you feel that atheists and other people like atheists reject god in their lives? -
No, I don't.
Some atheists do of course, reject God completely.
And some atheists believe in aspects of the Bible - therefore having some association with God - and don't believe in other aspects. If I'm not mistaken, you stated this once before: "It's a fairytale, but at the end of fairytale there's a moral to the story." -
and Ting pities all god believers because they're all so stuck in their little fairy tale that doesn't have any truth to it :P some of the morals in the bible are good but the rest is crap.

Well Leah, in the same respect, I have never that I can remember, see you abandon logic and scientifically validated fact to support your belief. You have usually found a way to use logic to support yourself and you've not been an extremist as long as I can remember. The most extremist thing I've ever seen you do is talk about religion in the very thread where someone said they were tired of people preaching religion. (right here). For the most part, from what I can tell, you have been content with your belief and you get along with others as long as it's not over a religios topic. So if we can agree to respect each others beliefs (or lack of) without trying to persuade our own onto one another in every conversation, I'm sure we can all get to know and respect each other as human beings, and not as religions.
I know that for the last half of that, we probably already did, or at least try to, but I thought I should at least restate it or confirm it.
