today in sunday school we said that there is still the possibility that their is no God. now i'm scared. what if the God i love isn't real and my words are going to outer space? i'm way to sensitive to handle the fact that my soul, when i die, could be vanished forever and there will be no heaven no paradise. on the other hand they said that there most likely is a God. I want to keep praying but i'm scared. surely my soul won't be gone after i die?

tongue AdvancedYea we all panic at first when we realize that. Basically you just need to examine your own beliefs and go from there.

Actually they did lie to you. It's a sunday school so I'm surprised they'de even bring it up at all. But most likely there isnt an afterlife. I personally think that believing that talking to a man in the sky will grant you immortal salvation is a bit of a selfish delusion which contradicts the "qualifications" of that salvation in the first place.
Also, why would it be so bad if there wasnt an afterlife? That makes the life you have right now all the more special. It gives this life meaning. Believing that there is immortality after this makes this life seem like a suckish bumper between now and then. After all, what's a few decades compared to eternity, right?
So I say embrace oblivion! This life's the only one you've got so make the most of it you can! Dont spend it on your knees, spend it improving the world around you! Enjoy this life! The greatest sense of happiness you'll ever feel wont be eternal paradise, so that means it's the second best! The greatest sense of happiness you'll ever feel will instead be the sense of achievement and knowing you did good for others!
I know what some of you will say, you'll say that religion is the exact same and that in fact religion gives you that feeling 10 fold! But ask yourselves this, what did we call the time in our history? Right now you either cant think of a time like that, or you just realized that I'm talking about the dark ages. That's right, when religion ruled supreme we had such humane and wonderful things as the inquisition, the great crusades, and the heretic and witch burnings. So before you tell me that religion is such a wonderful thing, please check what your preaching for first!
I'm an atheist, and I am proud to be so. -
I believe in an afterlife, specifically that it's a new adventure not too different from this one.
But even if there is no afterlife, oblivion can't be all that bad either. Somewhat boring, but hell, it's better than hell.
Plus it's like that time that I can't remember but kind of have the feeling of. Which really wasn't too bad in itself.
But it isn't bad to worry about there being no afterlife. Making it so that someone's words make you fear death is. Just remember it's a new experience either way, and think of all the people who piss you off that won't bother you there. -
This is Appayipyip42 by the way, also known as overly obsessed with Star Trek, specifically Klingons.

So first off, you need to understand that theism is the belief in a theistic god. The belief that a supreme creator or creators made the world and gave humanity a purpose. Atheism is the lack in belief in said theistic god(s). You do not choose what you believe in. Belief is not a choice. I do not choose to be atheist. I am compelled with logic, reason, and scientific fact. I cannot simply choose to deny everything I see before me because having a grand creator is a more comforting idea. I follow atheism because I refuse to live a life if ritualistic servitude to a deity whos entire history is a farce.
You're telling us to abandon all common sense and believe in an imaginary friend from a fairy tale written 2000 years ago because it's better safe than sorry?
You know, there was actually a time when the entire world believed in the catholic god. That was the time of the inquisition, the great crusades, and the heretic burnings...
They're called the dark ages for a reason...
