the adverce effect to losing brain cells is gaining some. And that is always good.

tongue AdvancedYes. Unfortunately many people don't understand a debate to be something such as that on this site. Alot of people around here put up a wall when it comes to other people's ideas. I'm probably guilty of that, but only because I've heard it all before.

I used to actually be christain and understand their viewpoints. What the religious community doesnt understand is that i have seen their side, and that I am trying to help them understand what true enlightenment is.
-
tongue AdvancedI don't particularly care about enlightening anyone. My battle is just to get people to accept my beliefs and let me be.

In the other thread you said that you dont believe in a god because of all the bad out there. Look at how much of the bad has been caused with religious intentiions. Turning your cheek and thinking, "If they dont see me I dont see them" isnt stopping any of that bad. It's pretending you didnt see anything the next time something bad does happen.

tongue AdvancedHonestly though, I think religion has a place in the world and has some positive qualities. Judeo-Christian ethics inform alot of our modern morals, whether we observe the Christian God or not. And hell, if convincing people to become atheists turns them as cynical as me, I think I'd rather spare them that fate.

Personally, I feel that morals come from the person who holds them. Most pointless cruelty is enforced by what people see as religious morals. "The bible says to kill all those who refuse to convert, so I want to be a good christian!" I dont see atheism as cynical. I see it as freeing. Once all religion is gone and stops hindering the world, we will be able to progress so much faster than we already are. That cynical mind you're talking about is a double edged blade. It all depends on how you weild it. It can be a negative thing as much as it can be a positive thing.
