"For those of you who don't want to follow the link, a pastor in Florida is planning on starting an online national registry of out-of-the-closet atheists.
He says that it would be like the online registry of sex offenders. You could find the names and photos of all the atheists living in your area. That way, Christians can track you down, boycott your business, proselytize to you, warn you of the "dangers" of atheism, harass your kids while they're at school, and vandalize your property to teach you a lesson. After all, you're probably just demon spawn, as far as he's concerned. Well, no, actually he doesn't think you're demon spawn; he thinks you're more like sex offenders
I'm an atheist, so you can guess how I feel about this
But I want to know how all of you would respond to this. Atheists? Theists?
Christians:
What do you think of branding atheists as being 'not much different than sex offenders?' You, at least if you're a Christian of any serious conviction, believe that atheists will suffer maximally and endlessly in the next life. Knowing this, do you think it's OK to try to convert atheists by any means necessary? Couldn't you argue that it's more compassionate to torture atheists in this life in the hopes of converting them rather than letting them die in comfort only to wake-up in a world of unimaginable misery? Do you support the ostracizing and bullying of atheists?"

Speaking of which, this kind of reminds me of Nazis, you know how they made Jews make themselves obvious because their religion made them "monsters?" And they needed to be treated as such?

Every missionary who comes to my door will find a carbine bomb under their car before they reach my door. By the time they reach my door they wont be standing because of all the razor wire I'll be leaving for them. Once they reach my front door I'll be nice enough to just grab their necks and throw them down the stairs. I'll be more than happy to ask them where their god is as I make a 6" incision into their lower stomach and let a hungry rat make a next in there. I'll stitch the wound up loosely and put a box cutter through both of their ankles before shoving them back out the door and telling them to walk home.
I therapist says it's healthy to imagine this stuff as long as I dont act on it. My therapist is also a heavy christian and would be one of the first ones to try and convert me.

tongue AdvancedFreedom of religion only means the government can't discriminate against you because of your religion. Everyone else can unfortunately. If a church wanted to make a website that showed where atheists lived, they could legally do it. However it opens the floodgates for hate crimes against atheists, which are persued mercilessly by the Feds and punished severely.
